Title: Right Hosting for Minecraft Servers
Post by: parveen on Jun 10, 2023, 12:01 AM
Greetings! I currently run a Minecraft server equipped with around 50 industrial mods. The server is expected to accommodate between 10 to 30 players. Currently, I am using a VDS hosting service from scalacube.com. However, the server has been experiencing slow downs frequently, despite not being utilized to its full capacity. The hardware specs of this hosting service are 2 CPU Xeon E3-1245 (3.4GHz), 4.5 RAM.

Although I suspect that it may be due to poor server optimization, but I have observed better TPS with the same mods on cheaper hosting services, not VDS. Could you recommend a stable hosting service that I can purchase for my server?

P.S. I've taken a look at DigitalOcean, but I'm unsure about the type of processors they use and whether or not their hosting services are compatible with game servers.

Due to its use of virtualization technology and the fact that one powerful processor is often shared by many services, vds may not be the best option for gaming.

However, if you are looking to rent hardware without virtualization, even non-server hardware (such as that offered by Hetzner) could provide a better price-speed ratio, albeit with reduced reliability.

Virtualization technology can often lead to sharing of one powerful processor among multiple services, making vds ill-suited for gaming purposes.

In contrast, opting for non-virtualized hardware (such as Hetzner's offerings) may offer a better price-speed ratio, even if it comes with reduced reliability.

Many individuals opt for either Hetzner or OVH, despite the fact that 4.5 GB of memory is quite limited.

However, there are issues with both providers. Hetzner uses pre-owned disks, which may be problematic. Meanwhile, OVH may take several days to repair a failed disk.

May I ask about your budget?

If you're experiencing frequent slowdowns on your current VDS hosting service, it could indeed be due to poor server optimization or resource allocation. To ensure optimal performance for your Minecraft server with industrial mods, here are a few hosting services you can consider:

1. Apex Hosting (www.apexminecrafthosting.com): They specialize in Minecraft server hosting and offer various plans tailored to different needs, including modded servers. Their support team can assist with optimization and troubleshooting.

2. BisectHosting (www.bisecthosting.com): They provide affordable and reliable Minecraft server hosting with a focus on delivering high-performance experience. They support modpacks and have options for customization based on player count and mods.

3. Shockbyte (www.shockbyte.com): Another popular option for Minecraft server hosting, Shockbyte offers plans suitable for modded servers. They have a user-friendly control panel and provide assistance with server optimization.

4. MCProHosting (www.mcprohosting.com): They offer reliable and flexible Minecraft server hosting services, including support for modded servers. They have different plans to suit various needs and provide 24/7 customer support.

5. BeastNode (www.beastnode.com): BeastNode provides high-performance Minecraft server hosting with options for modded servers. They offer both shared and dedicated hosting plans, allowing you to choose the level of resources you need.

6. CubedHost (www.cubedhost.com): CubedHost specializes in Minecraft server hosting and offers plans suitable for modded servers. They have a user-friendly control panel and provide helpful guides for optimizing your server's performance.

Regarding DigitalOcean, it's worth noting that they primarily offer scalable cloud infrastructure rather than specialized game server hosting. While you could set up a Minecraft server on DigitalOcean, it may require more manual configuration and optimization compared to the dedicated hosting services mentioned above.

Before finalizing your decision, I recommend researching each hosting provider further to ensure they meet your specific requirements in terms of performance, pricing, customer support, and compatibility with industrial mods.
