Title: Premium DNS server
Post by: JimyChen on Dec 07, 2022, 04:21 AM
A year ago, I created a basic website for my job. Recently, I was notified via email that it's time to renew the domain name.

There's an option to upgrade to Premium DNS along with the domain name renewal, but it comes at an additional cost of $10. I'm not sure whether it's necessary as my site has a low amount of traffic and I don't plan on increasing it in the near future. I tried researching online, but I'm still unsure about the significance of Premium DNS.

Does anyone have any knowledge on this topic? Your input would be greatly appreciated!

The service provided by your hoster is called "Premium DNS," but the reasoning behind this name remains unknown. It is advisable to check their website and clarify what features are included in this service.

If there are any extra records added aside from the standard ones, they will expire once the Premium DNS service is discontinued.

One of the main benefits of Premium DNS is that it enables you to modify DNS records to suit your needs.

While Premium DNS is a service that comes with a cost, its impact on search results remains theoretical and unproven.

Using regular DNS should not interfere with the functionality of your website and should operate as it has before.

It's important to weigh the benefits and costs of additional services like Premium DNS before making a decision, especially if your website has limited traffic or visitors.

DNS (Domain Name System) is like the phone book of the internet, translating domain names into IP addresses so that browsers can load resources from the correct servers. Premium DNS usually offers enhanced reliability and performance over standard DNS services. It can ensure faster resolution times, improved security features such as DDoS protection, and better management tools for your domain records.

However, the decision to upgrade really depends on the specific needs of your website. Since you mentioned that your site has low traffic and there are no plans to increase it significantly in the near future, the benefits of Premium DNS may not be immediately essential. Basic DNS should suffice for simple websites with minimal traffic.

That being said, there are a few scenarios where upgrading to Premium DNS could be beneficial. If your website is business-critical and any downtime would have a significant impact, the added reliability and security features of Premium DNS could be invaluable. Additionally, if your website involves e-commerce or sensitive user data, the extra layer of protection provided by Premium DNS may be worth the investment.
While Premium DNS offers advantages in terms of speed, security, and reliability, it may not be a necessary expense for every website. Evaluate the specific needs and objectives of your website, consider the potential impact of downtime or security vulnerabilities, and weigh the cost of the upgrade against the potential benefits. It's always a good idea to consult with a knowledgeable web professional or your hosting provider to get personalized advice based on the unique characteristics of your website.

Premium DNS is just a fancy marketing term for "expensive DNS".
If your website has low traffic, you don't need the extra bells and whistles. In fact, you're probably wasting your money on unnecessary features. The vast majority of websites don't require Premium DNS, and the benefits are largely theoretical. Don't fall for the hype and stick with the standard DNS service.
