Were you aware that the majority of the European market is dominated by ccTLDs?

According to data provided by CENTR, the association representing European country code top-level domain (ccTLD) registries, on average, ccTLDs account for 58% of the European domain market.

This surpasses the combined market share of legacy TLDs like .com, .net, .org, and gTLDs.

During a recent InterNetX podcast, Peter Van Roste, General Manager of CENTR, discussed several topics regarding the influence of ccTLDs in the European markets. Here's a breakdown of the podcast chapters:

- Peter's role and accomplishments as General Manager of CENTR
- The popularity of ccTLDs
- Comparison of ccTLD usage during the pandemic and present times, and the purposes they serve
- A look back at the 90s and the emergence of ccTLDs
- The impact of NIS2 regulations on European ccTLDs
- How CENTR ensures the protection of ccTLDs
- Predictions for the future of ccTLDs, including renewal rates and new registrations

According to Mr. Van Roste, ccTLDs are more frequently developed and used for active websites rather than being left as parked domains. Additionally, they are less prone to illegal activities like spamming and phishing compared to other TLDs.
