Last week, the company revealed that it would cut 8% of its workforce, equating to the loss of over 500 jobs based on current staff numbers.
The layoffs are most notably impacting employees at three brands - Media Temple, Main Street Hub and 123 Reg - with the latter set to remain, but some roles being terminated. CEO Aman Bhutani cited growth hindered by an "uncertain macroeconomic environment" as the reason for the job losses.

GoDaddy management deceived around 500 of its employees by sending phishing emails claiming that they would receive a $650 holiday bonus. The emails asked them to provide personal information, and those who complied were subsequently informed that they had failed a security test and were required to retrain.

Social media users criticized the move as insensitive during a pandemic when many have lost their jobs or been taken ill. Some GoDaddy customers even threatened to leave the registrar. In response to the backlash, the company apologized and assured everyone that they take platform security very seriously.
