Yesterday, WetPaint.com closed at a staggering $74,000, making a big splash in the news. The backstory of WetPaint.com is truly fascinating, and it was even recognized by Time Magazine as one of the top 50 websites in 2007.

Over the years, the company managed to secure a significant amount of venture capital through three separate funding rounds, with the last round raising an impressive $25 million in 2008.

In December 2012, Wetpaint was acquired by Viggle, an entertainment rewards platform, which later reverted back to its original name, Function(X). This acquisition brought about some changes to Wetpaint, but updates to the main website ceased in 2018. Unfortunately, by mid-2020, Wetpaint had become defunct, leading to the removal of its 10,000 timeline photos on Facebook.

According to Ahrefs, Wetpaint.com boasts a domain rating of 75 and has amassed an impressive 1.5 million backlinks, with 83% of them being do follow. Additionally, it has been linked by 47,000 websites, with 75% of those links being do follow.

It's worth noting that the story of WetPaint.com serves as a reminder of the fast-paced nature of the online world, highlighting the rise and fall of prominent websites and the challenges they face in maintaining relevance over time.
