Uniregistry had a successful run for almost ten years before being acquired by GoDaddy three years ago.

This acquisition was intended to incorporate founder Frank Schilling's domain name portfolio. While GoDaddy has kept Uniregistry and the Uni Market operational, the latter will be closing on April 18th, marking the end of a thriving domain marketplace era.

Last year, Uniregistry began transferring small domain investor accounts to GoDaddy and its management portal. However, large investor accounts with numerous domains remained with Uniregistry. This is likely to change, potentially in May or June. Although an exact date has not been set, it is certain that Uniregistry will not survive as an independent domain registrar beyond 2023.

We reached out to Uniregistry with a question regarding the transition, specifically whether domains would be locked for 60 days. The answer is no.

If you have already received the email about migrating your account from Uniregistry to GoDaddy, this primarily affects the registrar side of your account. After the migration, your domains will not be locked for 60 days, but you will manage them directly with GoDaddy. Once the transfer is complete, you will no longer have access to the Uniregistry account.

Keep an eye out for the email detailing the migration from Uniregistry to GoDaddy and proceed with moving your domains under GoDaddy management. At that point, you can make an informed decision about whether to keep your domains with GoDaddy, although discounts and perks from Uniregistry will no longer apply.
