Title: Good News for Afternic Users: Migration Excludes Already Listed Domains

In my earlier article this week, I discussed the closure of Uniregistry Market and the steps for transferring your domains to Afternic.

After writing the article, I decided to delve into the migration process. When I clicked on the migration link, I encountered a 502 error. I refreshed the page, and it indicated that the migration was underway.

I was taken aback because I had expected a confirmation step that would clearly explain which elements would be migrated. However, no such step existed, and the migration was already in progress.

My initial concern pertained to pricing. I possessed some outdated pricing information for Uniregistry domains that I had never updated. Would these prices supersede the current ones at Afternic?

Fortunately, if a domain is already listed on Afternic, it will not be migrated. Nonetheless, the migration process attempts to transfer the pricing data. Therefore, if you have a domain listed on Uni but not on Afternic, that information will be transferred.

My second concern revolved around the numerous old domains in Uniregistry that I no longer owned. Since Uniregistry sold domains through landing pages rather than a marketplace, there was no need to delete them once they were sold elsewhere or expired.

It stands to reason that if you initiate the migration, these domains will be added to Afternic. Since there was no confirmation step, I was unable to halt this process, resulting in numerous domains now present in my Afternic account that I will have to clean up and remove. This will require additional effort on my part.

The bottom line is that only a small number of individuals will likely need to use the migration tool. It is only worthwhile if you regularly added domains to Uni without adding them to Afternic.
