The most popular TLDs in premium sales were .XYZ, .LOL, and .Auto. Examples of these premium sales included Metro.xyz, HaHa.LOL, and Save.Auto. Standard sales also saw .XYZ, .LOL, and .Monster as the most popular TLDs. The highest premium sales went up to $3,000/year MSRP and included domains such as 8888.xyz, BS.xyz, LA.xyz, and Refi.xyz. One notable aftermarket sale was Conduit.xyz which sold for $69,888.
48.21% of the .xyz aftermarket sales reported at NameBio were three-letter domains, such as CPR.xyz sold for $911, Fed.xyz sold for $315, and MHS.xyz sold for $227. Additionally, numerous companies and platforms worldwide launched their websites on premium XYZ Registry domains. Some of the popular SLD keywords in December .xyz registrations included art, app, shop, bet, tech, store, web, online, and lab. In China, 573 .xyz websites received their ICP license in December, including Yijuan.xyz, Hyipo.xyz, and 1Textile.xyz.
Notable influencers who use XYZ domains include Matt Brown who uses MTB.xyz as his personal website and is the founder of freelancing platform Bonsai and recruitment automation platform Work4, and investor at venture capital firm Matrix Partners. Jesse Pollak, Protocols lead at crypto exchange platform Coinbase, uses Jesse.xyz as his personal website. Crypto inventor of the social media hashtag (#) Chris Messina uses his Twitter profile to point followers to his Mastodon account @chrismessina@mastodon.xyz.
A group of employees of XYZ.com, including Daniel Negari and several other individuals, have been accused by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) of illegally collecting personal data of citizens through a network of approximately 200 websites. These sites promised loans but actually gathered information from loan applications for resale to third parties, which included not only financial companies. This allowed fraudsters to access valuable personal data.
Although the top executives of XYZ.com were involved in this illicit activity, the domain registry itself seemingly had no involvement in these actions. All the domains used to collect personal data were registered in the .COM zone, not in the .XYZ domain. Therefore, it would be unjust to implicate the domain itself in any wrongdoing. Nevertheless, this situation could harm the image of the domain zone.
Derek Newman, the lawyer representing XYZ.com's executives, has refuted the FTC's claims as baseless.
