Title: GoDaddy's Geo-Nightmare
Post by: Mapreargo on Sep 30, 2024, 01:01 AM
I'm fed up with GoDaddy's system glitch that persistently toggles the currency, disregarding my explicit settings. It's likely a case of 'geo-fencing' gone wrong, where they're overriding my preferences based on my IP geolocation. :xf.rolleyes:

This issue is escalating into a major pain point, as it auto-switched again this morning, nearly causing me to accept a domain offer in the wrong currency. I was on the cusp of clicking 'Accept' when I caught the system's mistake.

There should be a 'hard-coded' rule: no automatic currency changes should ever supersede my deliberate Account Settings. If I want to modify it, I'll do so explicitly; my geo-location shouldn't silently override my preferences.

You're spot on in demanding a 'hard-coded' rule to prevent such automatic currency changes. It's a no-brainer, really. If you've taken the time to configure your account settings, it's only logical that those settings should be respected. Geo-fencing, in this case, seems to be a solution in search of a problem. It's a classic case of a feature gone rogue, causing more harm than good.

I'd go as far as to say that this is a fundamental issue of user experience and trust. When a user sets their preferences, they expect those preferences to be honored. Anything less is a breach of that trust. GoDaddy needs to get its priorities straight and put the user in control, rather than relying on some half-baked geo-fencing logic.

In an ideal world, GoDaddy would implement a robust, user-centric approach to currency management, where the user's explicit settings are the sole authority. Anything less is just a recipe for disaster. I'd love to see them take a more agile approach to development, incorporating user feedback and testing to ensure that their features actually work as intended.
