Title: Sedo vs. Afternic
Post by: eorixoml on Nov 16, 2023, 07:10 AM
Earlier, I had a list of domains parked with nameservers set to Sedo, but later I changed them to Afternic to check the sales and offer views. What I observed was quite interesting.

Sedo showed a lot of offer views on the domains, even when they were not parked there, and there were clicks on some domains as well when they were parked.

However, Afternic did not show any views or visits on the same domains after changing the parking and nameservers to them.

It makes me wonder if the Afternic views counter is not working properly, or if the views counts from Sedo were fake.

Different domain parking services may track visits and offer views in different ways, and the display of this data can vary.

When you changed the nameservers to Afternic, it's possible that their method of tracking offer views and visits differs from Sedo's approach. This could explain why you did not see any views or visits on the domains after making the switch.

As for Sedo showing offer views even when the domains were not parked there, it's possible that Sedo continues to track certain metrics for domains that were previously parked with them. This could explain why you saw offer views on domains that were no longer parked at Sedo.

In addition to reaching out to the support teams of Sedo and Afternic, it may also be helpful to consider other factors that could contribute to the differences you observed.

For example, the placement and visibility of the domains on Sedo and Afternic's platforms can impact the number of views and offers they receive. It's possible that the domains had different levels of exposure or were listed in different categories on each platform, leading to variations in the observed activity.

Furthermore, consider the timing of the changes. The period immediately after switching the nameservers to Afternic may not have provided enough time for the platform to accrue significant views and offer activity. It's important to allow sufficient time for data to accumulate before making conclusions about the performance of a domain on a particular parking service.

Lastly, consider the quality of traffic and offers. While one service may show more views and offers, the quality of those views and offers is equally important. It's possible that even though Sedo showed more activity, the offers and views from Afternic were more genuine and indicative of potential buyer interest.

The fact that Sedo showed significant offer views even when domains were no longer parked there raises questions about the accuracy of their metrics. It's possible that Sedo employs aggressive marketing tactics to inflate view counts, creating an illusion of traffic to entice sellers.

Conversely, Afternic's lack of reported views could indicate a more stringent tracking system or simply that their traffic generation isn't as robust. This disparity could lead to skepticism about the reliability of both services. If Afternic's views counter isn't functioning correctly, it could signify deeper issues within their platform that need addressing.
