"Privacy Protection" - free
I have been a long-time user of canspace.ca, primarily because it is based in North America and offers the best value for price based on customer reviews. Although I currently have domains registered with GoDaddy (not by choice), I am interested in trying Google as a registrar. Google's transparent payment system and free privacy feature appeal to me.
While browsing regway.com/domain-registration/index.php, I noticed that they offer significant cost savings on domain registration. However, I am unsure if this registrar can be trusted, and I suspect that the reduced price may be a one-time promotion that could lead to higher costs in the future, as is often the case.
At present, customers can register a domain with Charleston Road Registry, which operates under the Google Registry name. They can choose from five proprietary TLDs (.page, .app, .how, .soy, or .みんな) or two hundred other TLDs available through partners. Prices for domains range from $8 to $350, without premium coefficients.
The Google Registry website can be accessed via nic.google or www.registry.google. The registrar offers private registration, email forwarding, domain forwarding, custom subdomains, and more. However, registration is only available to those with a billing address in one of fifteen supported countries. Nomulus, the engine powering Google Registry, is a Java engine integrated into the Google Cloud Platform and will soon be available as open source under Apache 2.0.
None of these registrars are doing anything particularly exciting or groundbreaking. Even Namesilo, which has a decent pricing model, is just a me-too player in the market. Where's the registrar that's going to disrupt the industry with a new business model or a game-changing feature?
GoDaddy's trying to be a one-stop shop, but they're just spreading themselves too thin. Namecheap's trying to be the low-cost leader, but they're not really innovating. Dynadot's just trying to make a quick buck off of unsuspecting customers. Resellerclub's just a mess. Namesilo's the least worst of the bunch, but that's not saying much.
