Title: Domain parking
Post by: socialreger on Jun 21, 2022, 02:58 AM
Hi there,
As someone new to selling domains, I want advice on the best domain parking service to choose. Specifically, I'm considering afternic, dan or sedo, and I'm curious which one will generate the most revenue.

Additionally, I'm wondering which nameserver (dan, sedo, or afternic) to set my domain to for parking, since I understand that domain parking involves a nameserver and a landing page. Thanks!

If you're not sure what to look for when registering a domain, there's a high chance it won't generate any traffic. Out of the small percentage that does generate traffic, only 80% will have enough to cover renewal costs.

To earn revenue through parking, it's crucial to use tools that can predict if a domain will generate at least $10 per year. While occasionally you may come across a domain that generates around $1 per day, they are extremely rare in today's market.

To point a domain to hosting, one needs to access the domain management and know the IP of the hosting webserver. The IP is then added to the A-records in the domain name settings. After waiting for changes to take effect, the domain's functionality can be verified on the new hosting.

To manage the domain from the hosting control panel, it needs to be added to the hosting provider's NS, which can be found in their technical support or FAQ. Information on changing the NS can also be obtained from the current domain registrar's technical support or FAQ.

Regarding parking lots, sedo.com and namedrive.com are two options that share many similarities. While some may prefer sedo over namedrive, the latter has a higher average cost per click, which increases depending on the length of time the domain is parked and the amount of traffic it receives. However, preferences may differ for each individual.

Starting with Afternic, this platform is especially effective if your focus is on reaching potential buyers quickly. The service benefits significantly from its vast network, allowing your domains to be listed on multiple marketplaces simultaneously. One of the standout features is their "Fast Transfer" option, which facilitates an instant transfer of ownership once a sale is made, enhancing the user experience for buyers and potentially leading to quicker sales. The landing pages created by Afternic are optimized for conversion, focusing on generating clicks through advertisements that match relevant keywords. While their commission fees hover around 20-25%, many users find that the speed of sales often justifies the expense.

Next, we have Dan, a newer entrant that appeals primarily due to its sleek, minimalist user interface. The platform promotes transparency, as it has a straightforward fee structure that is often lower than competitors, typically around 15%. Dan excels in providing features like automated pricing suggestions, which can help you determine competitive prices for your domains without extensive research. One of the key benefits is their "Make Offer" feature, adding a layer of negotiation that many find beneficial. The ad placements on Dan's landing pages tend to be highly targeted, which can significantly increase click-through rates. Also, Dan allows you to customize your landing pages to some extent, offering a personalized touch for your domains.

Sedo stands out due to its long-standing reputation in the industry and a comprehensive range of services. While some find it a bit more complex to navigate, it offers an extensive marketplace with millions of potential buyers. The commission rates are similar to Afternic, usually around 15-20%, but this can vary based on your sales volume and type of domains you are selling. Sedo's parking service excels at monetization; they have a diverse array of advertisers that can enhance your earning potential through various ad formats. Their landing pages are less customizable compared to Dan but are precisely engineered for maximum traffic generation. Plus, Sedo offers additional services like domain auctions and brokerage, which can be beneficial if you are looking to expand your revenue streams.

Regarding the nameservers you should use, it's important to align your domain with the parking service you choose. If you opt for Afternic, you will need to set your nameservers to ns1.afternic.com and ns2.afternic.com. For Dan, use ns1.dan.com and ns2.dan.com. Lastly, Sedo requires you to point your nameservers to their servers, typically ns1.sedo.com and ns2.sedo.com. Setting the correct nameserver ensures that your domain is correctly parked and that traffic is routed to the service's landing pages.

When considering revenue potential, think about your domain portfolio. Are your domains niche-specific or generic? For generic high-value domains, Afternic could yield quicker returns due to its exposure. If you own niche domains that could attract targeted traffic, Dan's ad placements might perform better due to their focused approach.
It's wise to experiment by parking a few domains on each platform to analyze the performance metrics over a set period. Monitor click-through rates, revenue generated, and user engagement on landing pages to derive insights that can inform your long-term strategy. This hands-on experience will help you determine which service aligns best with your selling style and revenue goals.

If you're parking your domains, using Dan's nameserver can be advantageous due to its streamlined process and effective landing pages designed for conversion. Sedo's nameserver is also a solid choice, especially if you're looking to tap into their extensive network.
Afternic's nameserver can work well, but you might find their landing pages less optimized for immediate sales.
