Title: Domain name Registration is a dark business
Post by: brayden on Dec 10, 2022, 12:50 AM
Hi there!

A year ago, I made the decision to delve into front-end development, and so, I configured a droplet on digitalocean to get started with some experimenting. After a while, when it came time to purchase several domains, I surveyed the market and settled on a registrar rather than a reseller, thinking it would be cooler to avoid the hassle of unclear offices and buy directly from a registrar, even if it meant paying a slightly higher price. However, I soon discovered that I had made a mistake in not considering the price of the domain extension, as many large firms tend to hide this detail.

Now, I have a question regarding transferring my domain to a reseller or partner of a major registrar without compromising the safety of my domain or personal information. I am hesitant to share sensitive data like scans of my passport and worry about the reliability of such companies.

While considering switching to Western registrars, I realized that many people seem to dislike GoDaddy. Can anyone share their personal experience in this area? Any insights would be much appreciated!

A similar situation occurred. It was transferred to one of their associates. The cost for purchasing and renewing in the DE zone is $5.

After submitting my application and a scan of my passport, the transfer was completed after 10 days. I also obtained hosting which is suitable for small projects.

Currently, there appears to be a hosting promotion (as seen in their mailing list), but I find no use for it as I had already purchased it for a year at an agreed price.

It has been about 2 months since I transferred some projects and everything is running smoothly. At the moment, my plan is to use this hosting for small projects with the hope that there will be no issues.

In my opinion, registering company domains together with the trademark and name (optional) should be mandatory in order to prevent speculation. If a company is no longer active, those names and domains should be permanently removed, at least for a period of 100 years.

It's time to put an end to this domain mafia by refusing to pay them an annual tribute and generating our own DNS servers. Larger corporations can afford to set up their own DNS servers, while smaller businesses can band together to create their own zone. This could be initiated on the blockchain as well.

The domain mafia has targeted me and my karma in the past. I urge you all to join forces so that you can have complete ownership over the names you've come up with, without having to pay extortionists and blackmailers.

I personally believe that it would be best to completely abandon these zones, which were merely created as a way to extract more money from people. Companies and individuals often have to purchase names in all zones and then pay even more just to avoid duplicates.

The decision to transfer your domain to a reseller or partner of a major registrar requires thoughtful consideration to ensure the safety of your domain and personal information.
In the realm of domain management, the security and privacy of your assets are non-negotiable. When exploring potential resellers or partners, it's imperative to delve into their security protocols and data protection measures. Look for registrars with robust encryption practices, secure data storage, and proactive monitoring for any potential vulnerabilities. Additionally, seek out providers with transparent privacy policies and a demonstrated commitment to safeguarding customer data.

The handling of sensitive personal information, such as passport scans, demands a high level of scrutiny. Prior to entrusting any registrar or reseller with such data, thoroughly review their privacy and data retention policies. Ideally, opt for registrars that adhere to stringent data protection regulations and offer features such as WHOIS privacy protection to shield your personal details from public databases.

When contemplating a switch to Western registrars and considering the reputation of industry players like GoDaddy, it's crucial to gather a multifaceted view. While some individuals may express discontent with a particular registrar based on their experiences, others may have encountered positive outcomes. Engage in in-depth research by seeking out diverse perspectives from industry forums, professional networks, and reputable review platforms. This comprehensive approach will provide you with a balanced understanding of registrar performance, customer service, and overall satisfaction levels.
The transfer of your domain necessitates a meticulous assessment of security, privacy, and the reputability of potential registrars or resellers. By adopting a thorough and diligent approach to your decision-making process, you can ensure that your domain assets remain well-protected and that your personal information is handled with the utmost care and confidentiality.
