Title: Epik deleted my domain
Post by: Seattle on Nov 04, 2022, 09:27 AM
Can Epic remove my domain name from my account without my permission 3 days after purchase?

Is it possible for my domain names to be transferred to another account without my knowledge?

Date of purchase: 2022-10-30
Domain deletion date: 2022-11-2

Here's the message they sent me:

Dear Aman,

We hope you're doing well. We're writing to inform you that we had to cancel your purchase of the domain ....com.

On the day of your purchase, we experienced an issue with our database which led to the domain being accidentally included in the list and sold to another customer who placed a higher bid before you. As a result, we're sorry to say that your order had to be cancelled in order to fulfill the first winning bid. We will be refunding the full amount to your store credit balance.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you and hope you understand the situation. Please let us know if there's anything else we can assist you with.

Five months ago, I encountered a similar issue when I sold my website through Sedo. Unfortunately, they refused to proceed with the transaction, citing sanctions and denying service due to a frozen account. To resolve the issue, the American buyer suggested using escrow.com, but they also refused to transfer the funds to my account. Instead, I provided my account details in payoneer (ACH), and within two days, the money was successfully transferred to my payoneer account and credited to my card.

It's important to have alternative payment options in case one method fails. It's also crucial to ensure that all parties involved in a transaction are aware of any potential issues or limitations that could arise. Communication and transparency can help prevent complications and ensure a smooth transaction.

On the 18th of May 2022, the domain registration period will end, and it can then be renewed for a further 40 days. After this, the domain will enter the redemption period which lasts for 30 days. If the domain still has not been renewed by the end of this period, it will be deleted within five days.

To delete the domain before this deadline, you need to send an application with a request to delete the domain, including a scanned copy of your passport or driver's license, by email to psdaul@tucows.com. Once the specialists of the international registrar have identified you as the domain owner, they will be able to delete it.

Epik claims that they cannot initiate the deletion themselves and sent a letter to the user stating so on September 17. However, no such letter was found in the inbox or spam folder. This is the first letter from Epik where the subject does not specify the number of the correspondence ticket. The user requested a screenshot, which was provided, but it was not surprising that some may know how to manipulate images.

The user expresses frustration over wasted time and effort on unnecessary correspondence and questions the company's policy of informing customers with unverified information and failing to communicate during problems.

The lack of foresight in managing bids and their database is alarming.
As a customer, you should never have to deal with the fallout of their incompetence. This situation not only disrupts your plans but also raises serious doubts about their reliability. If they can't manage their inventory correctly, what else are they mismanaging?

You deserve a clear explanation and a more robust solution than just store credit.
