How often do you sell a domain name, regardless of the sale amount (which must be greater than $250)?
On a passive basis, I sell around 32-37 domain names per month, which averages to approximately 1.15 sales per day.
It's worth noting that I possess a portfolio of over 50,000 domain names.
In the last month, the domains that were sold had a median listing time of 29 months, with the shortest being 33 days and the longest exceeding 10 years.
It's quite a thought-provoking fact considering that only a tiny fraction of the domains on BrandBucket actually get sold.
There are situations where it is more straightforward to dispose of a website instead of promoting it, particularly for domains that are not visible in search engines. When multiple filters are applied to a domain name simultaneously, it can be extremely challenging to eliminate them.
In such cases, it's convenient to sell the entire domain name, even more so if it has a young age and authority is not a concern. Selling domains provides an opportunity to recover some monetary value if you've determined to shut down your business entirely or venture into a different field.
On average, I might sell a domain every couple of months, but it's not always consistent. Some months are busier than others, especially if there's a hot trend or a new business boom.
The key is to have a good portfolio of domains that are catchy, easy to remember, and relevant to current trends or industries. High-quality domain names often attract more buyers, and when you've got a strong portfolio, you might see more frequent sales. Networking with other domain investors and participating in domain auctions can also increase your chances of selling more often.
Pricing also plays a role. Setting a reasonable price that reflects the domain's value without scaring off potential buyers is crucial. Sometimes, negotiations can take a while, but patience usually pays off. It's not just about selling any domain; it's about finding the right buyer who sees the value in what you're offering.
While I might not sell a domain every week, when I do, it's usually for a decent amount, often exceeding that $250 mark.
I'd estimate that I sell a domain name approximately 3-5 times a year, with an average sale price ranging from 500 to 5,000. However, this frequency can fluctuate significantly depending on market trends, my portfolio's composition, and the quality of my domain names.
