Hello, I am considering moving my website from .fr to .com and would also like to add https. Beget offers free certificates through Let's Encrypt. Would it be advisable to add a certificate and move to https://newdomain.com, considering that Google Chrome now penalizes non-https websites?
Also, what is the proper way to do this? The website in question is for entertainment purposes. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

If you collect visitor data or have authorization, you can either separate the pages or the entire site, as was done before Google. It is important that all paths and pictures are accessible through https. Many websites have already made the switch due to the abundance of information available.
but, if you do not collect or need authorization for any data, you may opt out of https.

here are two main advantages to using https: a potential improvement in search engine rankings and increased security for user data. Large, established websites are more likely to benefit from the boost in traffic that could come from higher search rankings. However, newer sites may not see any noticeable impact on search results.

In terms of security, the decision to use https should depend on the type of site and whether personal information or payment details are collected. For example, blogs without personal data requirements may not require https, while payment pages should have it. It is important to analyze your site's needs before deciding whether to use the HTTPS protocol.

Yes, it is advisable to add an SSL certificate to your website and move to the HTTPS protocol. As you mentioned, Google Chrome now penalizes non-HTTPS websites, so having HTTPS will improve your website's security and search engine rankings.

Using Let's Encrypt to obtain a free SSL certificate is a great choice. It is widely trusted and supported by most web browsers. To move your website from .fr to .com and enable HTTPS, you can follow these steps:

1. Purchase the newdomain.com and set up hosting for it.
2. Install the Let's Encrypt SSL certificate on your hosting provider.
3. Configure your website to redirect all HTTP traffic to HTTPS. This can usually be done through your hosting provider's settings or using a plugin if you are using a content management system like WordPress.
4. Update any internal links in your website to point to the new domain (e.g., update image URLs, internal links).
5. Set up 301 redirects from the olddomain.fr to the newdomain.com for all your existing pages to preserve SEO ranking and ensure that users are automatically redirected to the new domain.

consider and steps to take when moving from .fr to .com and implementing HTTPS:

1. Update your website's canonical tags: Canonical tags help search engines understand which version of your website is the preferred one. Update your canonical tags to point to the newdomain.com version of your site.

2. Update your internal and external links: Make sure all the internal links within your website that point to other pages also reflect the newdomain.com structure. Additionally, if you have any external links pointing to your olddomain.fr, try reaching out to those website owners and request them to update the links to your new domain.

3. Monitor for traffic and backlinks: After the migration, keep an eye on your website's traffic and backlinks. If you notice a significant decrease in traffic or if any crucial backlinks are pointing to the old domain, reach out to the respective sources and request them to update the URLs.

4. Update social media profiles and sharing buttons: Review your social media profiles (such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) and update any links pointing to your old domain to the new domain. Similarly, update any social sharing buttons or plugins on your website to ensure they generate the correct URLs.

5. Update paid advertising campaigns: If you have any active paid advertising campaigns, such as Google Ads or Facebook Ads, update the URLs in those campaigns to ensure they direct users to the new domain.

Remember to take regular backups of your website before making any changes and test everything thoroughly after completing the migration to ensure everything is working as expected.

If you encounter any issues during the process, it is recommended to reach out to your hosting provider or consult with a web developer who can provide personalized assistance.
