Title: Free third-level domain name
Post by: Everett on Apr 20, 2023, 12:20 AM
Where can I acquire a free third-level domain that allows me to input my machine's IP address in the settings? I was removed from DynDNS.com since I have a static IP, and according to their regulations:
* Failure to log into the account for a period of 30 days
* No updates made to Dynamic DNS hostnames within a 30-day period.

https://auto.uanic.ua /  is for Ukraine domains with a list of available zones on the right-hand side, while the second link is for registering domains in the Runet zone.

It's important to configure the DNS beforehand if you want to register a domain instead of just a subdomain of someone else's. For DNS hosting, pdd.yandex.com/domains_add is recommended as it offers two DNS servers specifically for adding mail, and they can be easily edited and updated with Yandex e-mail. Alternatively, one can also search for "free dns hosting" on Google.

At www.dot.tk/en/pageA00.html, you have the option to choose any second-level domain for free within the zone. Additionally, they offer a DNS (limited to A, CNAME, and MX) or you can provide your own name servers.
It is important to note that the domain will expire if there are less than 25 unique visits in 90 days.

You can visit freedns.afraid.org to try it out where you can get a third-level domain and link it to your IP address. As far as restrictions go, I haven't come across any limitations regarding the IP address remaining unchanged for a long period.

Alternatively, you can register for a free domain in the .pp.ua zone on nic.ua, but do note that you will need to provide your mobile phone number for registration and activation purposes. When registering the domain, select the managed NS and input your IP address.

A reliable option is to register a free domain from a reputable provider like Freenom (e.g.,.tk,.ml,.ga). These domains usually come with limitations, but they're free and suitable for personal projects. You can set up a static IP address by creating an A-record pointing to your machine's IP address.

Another option is to explore alternative DNS services that cater to static IP addresses, such as No-IP (a.k.a. No-IP.com) or Afraid.org. These services often offer free plans with limited features, but they're designed for static IP addresses.

However, be cautious of the following:

Freenom's free domains are often plagued by spam and malware, so use them at your own risk.
No-IP and Afraid.org may have restrictions on the number of domains you can register or the frequency of updates.
