Title: Paid shared webhosting. We cut costs
Post by: Charlesth on Jul 30, 2022, 03:10 AM
Paying for hosting is important for serious projects, but it doesn't mean all solutions have to be paid. Honesty in licensing is key. One ethical way to reduce costs and risks is to place a banner or small block of advertising for your preferred hosting on your website.
This helps visitors learn about your hosting and potentially try it out themselves. If they register using your recommendation, you can earn profit that can be used towards your own hosting.

You can also create a blog post and share it on social networks to attract potential users. Some hosting providers offer promotional codes to help reduce costs. It's a mutually beneficial model and there's nothing wrong with advertising on your own platform instead of on popular resources. It's not difficult, and with good hosting, there will always be someone among friends who needs it too.

Earning from an affiliate program is not the same as reducing costs - reduction means getting rid of unnecessary services imposed by a hosting provider. While earning through affiliate programs can work, it's better suited for websites with an audience that includes webmasters. For sites outside that audience, it's better to place ads that are more relevant to their subject matter.

Additionally, I personally have no desire to promote my hosting provider - I simply want to ensure my site continues to function smoothly.

Before choosing a web hosting provider, it's important to check that you're not overspending on unprofessional web hosting. To ensure you find a reputable and high-quality provider, here's a checklist of criteria you should look for:

1. High uptime: Ideally, the provider should have an uptime above 99%. You can test this through trial access or by using specialized services like UptimeRobot, Pingdom, or Got Site Monitor. Additionally, check user reviews on web hosting ratings and forums.

2. High speed: Choose a provider with powerful servers and fast disks, preferably modern NVMe disks. Avoid HDDs as they will limit your site's performance.

3. Additional security measures: A good provider should offer antivirus and DDoS protection, as well as SSL certificates.

4. Professional technical support: Look for providers with free and 24/7 technical support to resolve any issues that may arise quickly.

5. Transparent financial policy: Ensure that there are no unexpected charges from your account and read the terms of the tariff plan carefully to avoid being charged more later.

All this can be great, and I suspect it happens in real life, but... 1) It will be of interest to anyone if the subject of his site is close enough to the topic of hosting services. 2) You write that "it won't cost you anything". It WILL (!) cost you anyway. I know from experience - Any extra banner on your site (even on a thematic one) worsens the perception of the integrity of the site and changes its conceptual design.

Consequently: What you offer may be of interest only to yellow-mouthed youths in the field of Internet business and, as a result, with low traffic to their "homegrown" sites and, hence, little interest in advertising located on these sites. The meaning is completely lost. End. :'(

It's true that placing a banner or small block of advertising for your preferred hosting on your website can be an ethical way to reduce costs and risks. This allows visitors to learn about your hosting and potentially try it out themselves. By recommending your hosting provider and earning a profit from referrals, you can also use that profit towards your own hosting expenses.

Creating a blog post and sharing it on social networks is another effective way to attract potential users to your hosting provider. Some hosting providers offer promotional codes that can help further reduce costs. This mutually beneficial model of advertising on your own platform instead of popular resources can be a strategic move. It's not difficult to implement, and with good hosting, there will always be someone among friends or acquaintances who may need it too.

There are several advantages to using paid shared web hosting:

1. Cost-effective: Shared hosting is usually more affordable compared to other types of hosting, such as dedicated or VPS hosting. This makes it a popular choice for individuals and small businesses with limited budgets.

2. Easy setup: Shared hosting providers typically offer user-friendly control panels and tools that make it easy to set up and manage your website. They often provide one-click installation options for popular CMS platforms like WordPress or Joomla.

3. Maintenance and support: With shared hosting, the hosting provider takes care of server maintenance and security updates. They also provide technical support to help you troubleshoot any issues that arise.

4. Scalability: Most shared hosting plans allow you to upgrade your resources as your website grows. This flexibility allows you to start with a basic plan and scale up as needed.

However, there are some limitations with shared hosting:

1. Limited resources: Since resources are shared among multiple websites, you may experience slower performance during peak times if other sites on the same server use a significant amount of resources.

2. Restricted customization: Shared hosting environments have certain restrictions on what you can modify or install on the server. This is done to maintain stability and security for all users on the server.

3. Security risks: If one website on the shared server gets compromised, there is a potential risk to other websites on the same server. However, reputable hosting providers have measures in place to mitigate these risks.
