Title: Webhosting - What features would you want to see?
Post by: Plan on Jun 19, 2022, 12:15 PM
Greetings,

In order for a provider to offer free hosting, what specific features do you believe should be included? Should it be focused on storage space, bandwidth, or other additional features?

Please provide thoughtful suggestions only. Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

Based on my experience with individuals who have launched companies that either began by providing free services or continue to do so, I can attest that it requires a significant amount of effort and is an attractive target for fraudulent, spam, phishing, and other illicit activities.

If you choose to offer free web hosting, you will need to maintain strict control over it. Personally, I do not believe it is worth the hassle, but I wish you the best of luck if you decide to proceed.

One potential solution could be to provide a free account with limited resources and no email capabilities to prevent issues related to spam. Additionally, offering an option for clients to upgrade to a premium version may be helpful.

However, it's uncommon for individuals who utilize free hosting services to opt for an upgrade. Typically, those who use free hosting services are less concerned with factors such as performance, uptime, and support. Therefore, it may not be a worthwhile endeavor.

For a provider to offer free-hosting what features would you want to see in this? Storage ? Bandwidth? Other Features?

Serious suggestions only-I appreciate it.

Thanks,
If you want to provide free hosting for sites, then everything is as usual, access to upload files to it in order to manage the site. To change it to your liking.

I know at least a few free hosts that have been in this market for a long time and are quite successful. And at the same time, the service of free hosting has been offered almost from the beginning of its existence. From which I made a simple logical conclusion long ago - it is beneficial for them. But! All these are quite large companies with significant investments in this business, and from the start! Draw your own conclusions. ;)

When providing free hosting services, it's important to strike a balance between offering valuable features and managing costs.
To begin with, storage space is a fundamental requirement for any website, so providing a reasonable amount of storage is essential. For small to medium-sized websites, a few gigabytes of storage can be sufficient, allowing users to host their content without feeling restricted.

Bandwidth is another critical aspect to consider. Users should have enough bandwidth to accommodate the traffic their website receives. By offering generous bandwidth limits, providers can ensure that websites hosted on their platform perform well under normal traffic conditions.

In addition to these core features, it's beneficial to include essential tools such as website builders or content management systems (CMS). These tools empower users to create and manage their websites efficiently, even if they have limited technical knowledge.

From a security standpoint, basic protections such as SSL certificates and malware scanning can help safeguard the hosted websites and instill trust in the users.

While it's tempting to focus solely on storage space and bandwidth, additional features like customer support, reliability, and scalability shouldn't be overlooked. Friendly and responsive customer support can make a significant difference, especially for users who are new to website hosting.

Reliability is paramount. Users expect their websites to be accessible at all times, so ensuring high uptime and performance is crucial. Scalability is also important, as users may eventually outgrow the limitations of free hosting and seek to upgrade to premium plans. Providing an easy transition path can be enticing for users.
Offering free hosting should encompass a holistic approach that goes beyond just storage space and bandwidth. By considering the overall user experience, security, and future scalability, providers can create an attractive offering that benefits both the users and the hosting company.
