Title: Dedicated Server for 7-8 csgo webservers
Post by: leavins on Jan 08, 2023, 06:41 AM
Is there a better server available in the EU that provides good DDoS protection? The current server I have has an Intel Xeon E3-1230v5 with 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, a 1TB hard drive, and a 1 Gbit/s network connection. It also has advanced DDoS protection, which can offer permanent protection from attacks of up to 40 Gbit/s. The server is located in the Netherlands and costs 68.50 euro/month.

Despite having this level of protection, I haven't experienced many attacks. However, I'm still wondering if this protection will be sufficient for my needs. Additionally, I'm curious about the server's capacity.

Currently, I'm running several channels like Fab (50), Arena (36), DM Slots (36), and Surfing (36). I also plan on running TTT-36, only wua-32, and Jail-38.

Thank you all for your help. This server has been the only one so far that has allowed for full jail and surfing on AMD DM resets with 20 players all the time, although occasionally it struggles.

It would be more cost-effective to rent two 4-core servers, which is probably your best option. When it comes to the server's processor, a 3+GHz speed is ideal if feasible. (Both options are suitable.)

In the CS:GO community, I haven't seen any major issues with DDoS attacks, but it's very impressive if the provider is capable of throttling up to 40Gbps.

However, it can be risky if the hosting company is inexperienced with proper filtering methods. Filtering is essential for blocking bad traffic and allowing only good traffic through, which should be configured protocol by protocol. In my past experiences, some providers have blocked UDP entirely or legitimate gaming traffic without realizing it. It's impossible to know what to expect with filtering unless you talk to the provider in advance about their strategies.

For hosting CS:GO servers, both virtual and physical dedicated servers (VPS and Dedicated, respectively) are suitable. It's important to consider the following characteristics when selecting equipment:

High-quality, uninterrupted operation of the server with the planned number of slots.
System performance without any "suspensions," which depends on the processor's computing power, the quality and quantity of RAM, and the overall hardware architecture.
Reliability even when exceeding the planned load of slots.
Easy hardware and virtual administration.
Ability to upgrade hardware and software quickly.
Automated virtual processes (e.g., updating the operating system kernel).

Other factors to consider include the hosting provider's availability and quality of 24/7 support, necessary privacy measures, and specific equipment that is tailored to handle the gaming software. It's also important to adapt the hardware to the desired operating system and factor in OS licensing costs.

Price is another crucial consideration.

Additionally, it's essential to consider the concept of "Tickrate." This is a number that represents the speed of exchanging data packets between the game client and the server. The higher the tickrate is, the better the server performs its assigned tasks.

Based on the specifications you provided, your current server seems to offer good DDoS protection and decent performance for your needs. However, if you are considering a more robust DDoS protection solution or are looking for alternative servers in the EU, there are several options available.

One option you could explore is OVH, a popular hosting provider in Europe that offers strong DDoS protection services. They have a wide range of server configurations at different price points, allowing you to choose the one that best fits your requirements.

Another option is Cloudflare, which provides distributed denial of service (DDoS) protection as part of its content delivery network (CDN). Cloudflare is known for its extensive network capacity and advanced security features, making it a reliable choice for protecting against DDoS attacks.

It's important to assess your specific needs and budget when choosing a server. Consider factors such as the number of players, the complexity of your channels, and the expected traffic load to determine the appropriate server specifications. You may also want to consider talking to hosting providers directly to discuss your requirements and get their recommendations.

Here are a few more options you can consider for servers with good DDoS protection in the EU:

1. Hetzner: Hetzner is a well-known hosting provider based in Germany, offering a range of server options with built-in DDoS protection. They have multiple data centers across Europe and provide reliable performance and security features.

2. Kimsufi: Kimsufi, owned by OVH, provides affordable dedicated servers with DDoS protection. While their server configurations may not be as powerful as OVH's high-end offerings, they still provide solid protection and performance at a lower cost.

3. Leaseweb: Leaseweb is another popular hosting provider that offers robust DDoS protection services. They have a strong network infrastructure and data centers located in various EU countries, providing excellent connectivity and security.

Here are a few more options for servers with good DDoS protection in the EU:

1. G-Core Labs: G-Core Labs offers a range of dedicated servers and cloud hosting solutions with advanced DDoS protection. They have a network of data centers across Europe, ensuring low latency and high availability.

2. StormWall: StormWall specializes in DDoS protection services and offers dedicated servers with built-in protection against all types of DDoS attacks. They have multiple data centers in Europe, providing reliable performance and security.

3. Voxility: Voxility is a global infrastructure provider that offers DDoS protected servers in various locations, including several in Europe. They provide robust DDoS mitigation services and have a strong network backbone.

4. Neterra: Neterra provides DDoS protected hosting solutions and has data centers in Bulgaria and the Netherlands. They offer flexible server configurations and scalable DDoS protection options.

Before making a decision, it's advisable to check each provider's specific DDoS protection capabilities, including the maximum capacity they can handle and the type of attacks they guard against. Additionally, consider factors such as customer support, pricing, and any additional features or services that may be relevant to your requirements.

Providers like OVH and Cloudflare offer robust DDoS mitigation services that can handle attacks well beyond 40 Gbit/s, ensuring your channels remain operational under stress.
While your Intel Xeon E3-1230v5 is competent, consider upgrading to a more powerful CPU, such as the E5 series or even AMD Ryzen options, which can provide better multitasking and responsiveness, especially with your growing channel demands.
