Title: Which New Domain Zones Are Trending Now?
Post by: dtsystems on Nov 17, 2023, 12:30 AM
Hey there! I need your assistance in choosing the trendy new domain zones. What are the hottest ones right now?

I've noticed that cc and co zones seem to be quite popular at times.

It would be great if you could suggest some additional options for this list.

Do you happen to know if there are any single-letter domain zones available today, like just "a" or "l"?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Many trendy domain zones (also known as top-level domains, or TLDs) included:

.ai (Artificial Intelligence)
.io (popular in tech circles for Input/Output)
.me (used for personal branding)
.ly (used for creative hacks)
.dev (used by developers)
.app (used for application websites)
.tech (for technology related sites)
.digital (popular for digital marketing agencies)
.xyz (for general use)
.club (good for communities and clubs)
There are many others, each with their specific fan base. But remember that a domain name is just one factor for your project. Good content, service or product, SEO, and user-friendliness should be focus points.

Regarding your question about single-letter domain zones, as of my knowledge cut-off in 2021, there were no generic top-level domains (gTLDs) that were just one letter. The structure and availability of domain names are regulated by ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), and they have set strict standards for new TLDs that typically include a minimum length of two to three characters. One-letter or one-number gTLDs were not allowed under these standards.

Beyond the domain extensions I mentioned previously, more specialized and niche ones have seen popularity in certain circles. Here are some additional examples:

.nyc, .berlin, .vegas (geo-specific extensions)
.ngo (for non-government organizations)
.green (for environment-related projects)
.bike, .yoga, .golf (for specific hobbies/interests)
.pizza, .coffee, .beer (for food-related businesses)
.store, .shop (for online retailers)
.healthcare, .dental (for health-related businesses)
There are new domain zones being bid for and released regularly, depending on approval from ICANN. It's wise to keep an eye on new releases, as they can give you opportunity to secure a more precise domain that directly corresponds with your business or project.

As for single-letter domain zones, remember that while you can't have a single-letter gTLD, you can have single-letter second-level domains, like 'a.co' or 'b.co', though many of the most desirable combinations have already been purchased or are owned by domain squatters.

The domain squatter practice has led to a robust aftermarket for these "premium" domains. Several websites can assist you in these cases, such as Afternic, Sedo, or Flippa where you can buy domains that are already owned by someone else but are for sale, but be prepared that the prices can be quite high.

Are the Chinese already aware of the new zones? They also have their own new opportunities with a Chinese IDN.

The new zones rank in the top 5 of Ostap's 400 ways to effortlessly make money. They rival direct burning of money and scattering it from the balcony as per Durov's suggestion. Though, in the latter case, the enjoyment is greater in my opinion :)

The only relatively new zone where more than 3-5 domains are sold per week is .club. It is advised not to venture into others, especially for beginners. Those with a strong portfolio in the main zones can consider buying 5-10% of domains from new zones, but for those without achievements in the old zones, delving into new ones is a guaranteed way to fail.

In my view, it's important to carefully assess the risks and potential gains before diving into new zones. Taking measured steps and building expertise can lead to long-term success in the domain industry.

As of now, some of the trending new domain zones include .ai (Anguilla), .io (Indian Ocean), .co (Colombia), .app, .dev, .tech, .online, .store, and .blog. These domain zones are popular for their association with specific industries, such as technology, development, and e-commerce.
Additionally, country-code top-level domains (ccTLDs) like .ai and .io have gained traction due to their versatility and availability for creative branding. Keep in mind that trends in domain zones are dynamic and can change over time based on industry developments and user preferences.

Some additional trending new domain zones include .design, .guru, .media, .marketing, .photography, and .agency. These domain zones are popular among creative professionals, marketers, and businesses looking to establish a strong online presence in their respective industries. Additionally, domain zones like .xyz and .world have gained popularity for their universal appeal and versatility. It's worth noting that the popularity of domain zones can be influenced by factors such as market trends, branding strategies, and industry-specific needs.
