The latest version of Garuda, called "Raptor", has been publicly released by the Garuda developer team.

This version has many fixes and quality-of-life improvements, including the use of Dracut as the preferred initramfs tool, an improved garuda-update, and a tidy Qt interface for the setup assistant. The former dependence on Latte-Dock features by the dr460nized edition has been replaced with standardized Plasma panels, resulting in some appearance changes such as losing top bar colors and transparency. The developers recommend transitioning to Plasma panels to avoid future instability and flaws caused by Latte-Dock.

Garuda Linux is a popular Arch Linux-based distribution known for its sleek appearance and personalized features. It is preferred by both Linux gamers and casual users due to its various editions and desktop environments selected specifically for different user types.

To enhance user experience, the setup assistant has been redesigned in C++/Qt, with actual tabs replacing several prompts. Additionally, new packages have been added, and support for detecting Nvidia cards has been included.

The introduction of garuda-update has helped resolve many problems caused by the rolling release mechanism used by Arch, while the use of Dracut as the initramfs tool has reduced hardcoding and conversion time to the real filesystem.

Here is my opinion on Garuda, an Arch Linux-based distribution. I opted for XFCE due to its comfortable look and feel, which prevented me from having to adjust icon settings in the distribution kit. Although I find this distribution relatively young, I believe that it has a promising future. The developers' philosophy lends itself to a very intuitive approach to use.

These views are my personal opinions and do not represent the "last word." I recommend running this distribution live as the developers suggest, since there is no live version available. Additionally, Garuda uses the btrfs file system, which cannot be changed. While the developers recommend installing this distribution on an SSD, I do not find this file system gentle on SSDs and prefer putting it on a hard drive. Nonetheless, Garuda shares similarities with Fedora, which runs btrfs without issues.

From the installation's start, Garuda intrigues me. It appears polished and well-thought-out, from the wallpaper to its personal programs. I have used it alongside Cinnamon for a month, but I find myself preferring Garuda due to its more pleasing interface to my eyes. Up until now, none of the updates have broken it, even after switching from the LTS 5.10 kernel to 5.14.

Personal distribution programs allow users to make nearly 90% of all actions and changes graphically, with no need to use the console. I find Timeshift, a program that takes snapshots of the system, to be very helpful. Generally, the system is suitable for users who value Manjaro distributions and their philosophy of using packages out of the box while taking all conclusions about arch rolling release into consideration.

This post presents a non-professional user's view on the Garuda distribution, aiming to share my experience in using it. For any questions, please feel free to ask.
