Google plans to expand its Nebraska footprint by adding 187 acres of land which will be adjacent to the data center that is currently being constructed in northwest Omaha.

According to Nebraska Examiner, if Google acquires this land, its total area in the northwest of State Street and Blair High Road will be 460 acres. The data center will consist of several buildings with equipment yards and parking areas spread throughout the site. There will also be a security entrance and an Omaha Public Power District switchyard on site.

Construction on the southeast portion of the nearly 460-acre project site has already begun. Although Google has not revealed much about its plans for constructing the data center in Nebraska, it announced last April that it would build one at State Street and Blair High Road. The initial project site was supposed to be smaller, about 260 acres, but due to the latest acquisition, it has now increased by 187 additional acres. The company expects to invest $750 million in Nebraska by 2022.

Google entered Nebraska in 2019 when it finally broke ground on its $600 million data center in Papillion. The new data center in northwest Omaha is expected to create job opportunities for computer technicians, engineers, and more while contributing to the education system through donations to schools and non-profit organizations.

Interestingly, the news of Google's expansion in Omaha follows its decision to indefinitely postpone the construction of a $600 million data center in Beck, Minnesota.

Google's website reports that up to 2022, the company has 23 data centers globally, with 14 in North America, 1 in South America, 6 in Europe, and 2 in Asia. Each data center has unique technical features and construction histories. The company plans to construct at least six more data centers from 2018 to 2022.

However, the digital capacities reflected on the company's official website only represent Google's assets. The company has strategic partnerships worldwide with many companies, including Poland's DCP. In partnership with DCP, Google invested approximately $2 billion in data center infrastructure in Poland, turning it into Europe's central cloud location.

Interestingly, Google's first-ever server was located at Exodus colocation data center in Santa Clara, California. At that time, Google didn't have its own data centers yet, and its capacity was only 2.5 square meters of infrastructure. While eBay, DEC, and AltaVista racks were next door.

This acquisition represents a strategic expansion of Google's property holdings in the region. It indicates a significant investment in physical infrastructure, which is crucial for the development and expansion of data centers. By acquiring the additional land, Google is positioning itself to accommodate future growth and technological advancements, reflecting the company's long-term vision and commitment to staying at the forefront of innovation.

This move underscores Google's dedication to bolstering its data processing capabilities and improving the efficiency and reliability of its services. The expanded site could potentially accommodate new data center facilities, networking infrastructure, and renewable energy projects, aligning with Google's broader sustainability and efficiency goals.

Google's expansion has the potential to stimulate job creation, attract further investment, and contribute to the overall development of the area. This could have a positive impact on local businesses, service providers, and the community at large.
Google's acquisition of additional acreage adjacent to its data center site illustrates the company's proactive approach to property development and technology infrastructure. It signals a commitment to long-term growth, innovation, and environmental sustainability, while also influencing the local real estate landscape and economy.
