The company is adding three more facilities in Hyderabad to their existing set, therefore having a total of six data centers in Telangana. This move was announced during the World Economic Forum where the Minister of IT and Industries of Telangana met with Microsoft Asia President in Switzerland.

Telangana is embracing new technologies, providing the best services for its citizens through digital platforms. The new Microsoft data centers have the capacity to handle an average IT load of 100 MW each and will be deployed over the next 10-15 years. They are a part of Microsoft's goal to strengthen its cloud infrastructure in India and serve Azure customers both in the country and worldwide.

Driven by the data boom, digital transformation, and local data storage mandates, the Indian data center market is expected to double from 875MW to around 1800MW by 2025. To promote the growth of the Indian data center market, the Telangana government announced rebates on building fees and concessions on land fees, among other incentives.

India is currently a prime destination for data centers, with over 100 locally operated facilities held by massive tech brands alike. As the market continues to grow, it is expected to become an even more attractive IT hub globally.

Is Microsoft's expansion in India just a flashy PR stunt? Six data centers in Telangana may look good on paper, but what about the actual benefits to the average user?
This is a classic case of big tech trying to dominate the market without ensuring that the infrastructure translates into tangible improvements for developers and end-users. The government's incentives might be enticing, but are we creating a data center bubble that will burst under scrutiny? The emphasis should be on innovation, not just capacity.
