"At Mobile World Congress 2023, we're announcing innovations to help our customers with their transformation efforts by delivering multi-cloud solutions for service providers and enhanced networking and security capabilities to support the needs at the edge," said Sanjay Uppal, senior vice president and general manager, Service Provider and Edge, VMware.
By modernizing their networks and leveraging 5G technology, CSPs can benefit from VMware's major advancements, including its vision for a unified Service Management and Orchestration framework that streamlines, optimizes, and automates radio access networks (RAN). In addition, VMware's Telco Cloud Platform uses VMware NSX to provide accelerated networks and security performance for virtual network functions (VNFs) and container network functions (CNFs).
Furthermore, VMware's SD-WAN and SASE solutions offer reliable and flexible WAN connectivity with improved quality of experience for voice and video applications across various transport services. VMware is also expanding its collaboration with Intel to deliver new edge appliances leveraging 5G connectivity to support additional SD-WAN use cases. Finally, with its revolutionary SD-WAN Client, VMware offers a comprehensive solution to optimize user experience across remote endpoints while boosting efficiency.
VMware is offering a unique opportunity for select customers and partners to preview the powerful VMware SD-WAN Client prior to its release in Q1 FY24.
To provide customers and partners with a new way to identify professionals well-equipped for successful deployment and management of VMware SD-WAN solutions, VMware has launched the VMware Certified Professional Education program, providing certifications in both SD-WAN and SASE.
Through this updated certification program, partners can demonstrate their engineering talents and show customers they have the skills to reach new heights. Passing these rigorous exams not only gives engineers the opportunity to hone their expertise but also makes them more marketable within their sector, leading to further success for partner companies and individuals.
VMware and Samsung Electronics have partnered together to reinforce their position as leaders in 5G technology. Their collaboration aims to aid telecom operators in meeting 5G network requirements and assist in their implementation using cloud-native technologies. These networks will increase the speed, flexibility and efficiency of deploying services across a range of new industries. Simplified management and operation and reduced operating costs will be achieved through end-to-end automation.
The partnership allows for careful end-to-end network design which will support the necessary level of flexibility required for 5G. Telecom operators can deploy cloud software-defined 5G networks for the high-speed provision of services and applications in the operator's distributed clouds using the VMware Telco Cloud Platform. This ensures consistency between operations, integrated lifecycle management, and multi-level automation while maintaining the operator class of performance, scalability and reliability.
To accelerate the deployment of Samsung 5G solutions on the VMware Telco Cloud Platform, the companies will optimize and improve the availability of various VNF and CNF functions provided by Samsung. Samsung has certified and will continue to certify its VNF and CNF under the VMware Ready for Telco Cloud program.
"Samsung considers it important to provide carrier-class solutions together with VMware. We help telecom operators seamlessly implement cloud technologies, as well as effectively deploy our network functions and services in 5G networks through automation" - Vonil Ro, Senior Vice President and head of Product Strategy at Samsung Electronics Network Solutions division.
"We are very pleased to cooperate with Samsung and to be able to create solutions for telecom operators based on the VMware Telco Cloud Platform. In this way, we will help operators become leading technological innovators in this area," said Shekar Ayyar, Executive Vice president and CEO of the cloud Solutions business unit for telecommunications and peripheral computing at VMware.
VMware's approach to enabling partners with 5G capabilities involves a few key components:
1. Network Virtualization: VMware aims to virtualize the network infrastructure to make it more flexible, scalable, and efficient. By abstracting network functions from the underlying hardware, partners can quickly deploy and manage virtualized network services, reducing time-to-market and operational costs.
2. Edge Computing: VMware recognizes the importance of edge computing in enabling low-latency applications and services. By extending their virtualization solutions to the network edge, partners can process and analyze data closer to the source, improving performance and responsiveness for applications that rely on real-time data processing.
3. Network Slicing: 5G networks are designed to provide customized network slices tailored to specific service requirements. VMware offers solutions for creating and managing these network slices, enabling partners to deliver differentiated services with varying levels of performance, security, and reliability.
4. Automation and Orchestration: VMware's software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV) technologies enable partners to automate and orchestrate the deployment and management of network resources. This automation allows for faster provisioning, scaling, and optimization of network services, resulting in improved efficiency and agility.
5. Multi-Cloud Connectivity: With 5G, there is a need for seamless connectivity and workload mobility across different cloud environments. VMware provides solutions that enable partners to build multi-cloud environments and securely connect and manage workloads across various cloud providers. This flexibility allows partners to take advantage of the unique capabilities and resources offered by different clouds while avoiding vendor lock-in.
6. Developer-friendly Environment: VMware provides a developer-friendly environment that enables partners to build and deploy 5G applications easily. By leveraging open-source tools and APIs, partners can efficiently develop and test applications on VMware's platforms, accelerating their time-to-market.
7. Enhanced Security: As 5G networks introduce new vulnerabilities, VMware focuses on providing robust security solutions for partners. This includes implementing virtualized security functions, applying micro-segmentation techniques, and employing advanced threat detection and response capabilities to protect the network infrastructure and customer data.
8. Ecosystem Integration: VMware understands the importance of collaboration within the telecommunications ecosystem. They actively work with various partners, including telecom equipment manufacturers, service providers, and system integrators, to ensure seamless integration of their technologies and facilitate interoperability across different components of the 5G ecosystem.
9. Industry-specific Solutions: VMware recognizes the unique requirements of different industries in adopting and leveraging 5G technologies. They collaborate with partners to develop industry-specific solutions, addressing specific use cases and challenges in sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, and entertainment.
10. Training and Support: VMware offers comprehensive training programs and support resources for partners to ensure successful implementation and operation of their 5G solutions.
