Title: Best practices to secure a shared hosting server with SSL and automated backups?
Post by: inhathanh on Jun 17, 2025, 02:40 AM
Hi all,
I'm managing a shared hosting environment (multiple WordPress/PHP sites) and I want to improve its security posture. Currently I've set up:

SSL certificates (via Let's Encrypt)

Basic firewall rules

Manual weekly backups

I'd love to hear from experienced admins:

Thanks in advance for sharing your setup and tips—especially those that work well in production without a huge overhead!

A shared hosting server can be secured by enabling SSL certificates, setting strong passwords, using firewalls, and limiting user access. Data recovery can be ensured by regularly implementing automated backups.

Make sure your shared hosting is secure by using SSL certificates, enabling firewall protection, using strong passwords, keeping software updated, and scheduling automated backups regularly.

Thanks for your feedback! I have already applied the points you mentioned, but I am looking for more advanced solutions for shared hosting (like fail2ban, real-time monitoring, abnormal warnings...). Can you or anyone with experience with these types of tools share more? I think it will be useful for many others!

Use a strong password, install SSL certificates, enable automated daily backups, update CMS/plugins regularly, and configure firewalls and malware scanning tools to secure a shared hosting server.

Use SSL certificates to encrypt all data transfers and enable automated, regular backups to protect against data loss. Additionally, keep your server software updated, enforce strong passwords, and limit unnecessary access to enhance overall security.
