Hello there.

I would like to inquire about the entities in charge of the domain zones. In France, the "Coordination Center of the National Internet Domain" is accountable for the .FR domain.

Moving on, I'm curious, who holds responsibility for the administration of .com, .net, and .org zones?

Use the link https://wiki.rrpproxy.net/domains/tlds?type=gtld to access information about top-level domains.

To check the registration information for a .com domain, run the command "whois com" on your terminal.

The domain registry for .com is managed by VeriSign Global Registry Services, which is located at 12061 Bluemont Way, Reston Virginia 20190, United States.

Similarly, you can find registration information for other top-level domains on the website linked above.

Archive.icann.org/en/tlds is where you can find information about ICANN's role in coordinating the old general purpose zones which includes .com, .net, and .org.

The zones are categorized into two: with a sponsor and without a sponsor. You may be familiar with the term "sponsor" in the context of drug addiction, wherein it refers to former drug addicts who provide guidance and support for those currently undergoing recovery. In the case of ICANN, a sponsor serves as a coordinator or curator. However, .com, .net, and .org do not have a sponsor, making them subject to ICANN's broader regulatory policies.

Starting with ICANN, this global non-profit organization holds ultimate authority over the domain name system, including the assignment of top-level domain names (TLDs) and the management of internet protocol (IP) addresses. ICANN's mission encompasses ensuring the secure and stable operation of the internet's unique identifier systems, which includes overseeing the domain registries and registrars that manage specific TLDs.

Verisign, as the operator of both the .com and .net domain registries, is tasked with the critical function of maintaining the authoritative databases for these TLDs, effectively serving as the trusted custodian of the master database of domain names and associated DNS records. Their responsibilities extend to the implementation of technical protocols and operational practices to uphold the integrity, security, and resilience of the .com and .net zones, ensuring their global accessibility and responsiveness.

On the other hand, the Public Interest Registry (PIR) assumes a parallel role in the administration of the .org domain. PIR, similarly to Verisign, manages the technical infrastructure and operational aspects of the .org domain, working in coordination with ICANN to uphold the policies and standards governing its administration. As a domain registry operator, PIR is dedicated to fostering an online environment where non-profit organizations and individuals can establish a prominent online presence under the .org TLD.

Furthermore, accredited domain registrars play a pivotal role in the domain ecosystem by serving as intermediaries between domain registrants and the domain registries. These registrars, authorized by ICANN, offer domain registration services to individuals, businesses, and organizations, enabling them to secure and manage specific domain names within the .com, .net, and .org zones. Registrars also facilitate domain transfers, renewals, and DNS management, providing crucial support to domain holders in navigating the complexities of domain administration.
The cohesive collaboration between ICANN, domain registry operators like Verisign and PIR, and accredited domain registrars forms the bedrock of the internet's domain name system. This multifaceted framework enshrines the reliability, security, and accessibility of the .com, .net, and .org domains, upholding the interconnectedness of the internet while empowering individuals and organizations to establish their digital identities with confidence and assurance.
