Vertiv, a leading provider of digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, has introduced two versions of a turnkey prefabricated modular (PFM) data center solution - Vertiv MegaMod and Vertiv MegaMod Plus.

These can be deployed in expandable units of 0.5 or 1 megawatts for IT loads of up to 2 megawatts or more. The integrated and tested data center modules come with Vertiv power management systems, thermal management solutions, remote monitoring, and IT equipment racks. This flexible capacity is a good fit for medium-sized data centers and can be readily implemented and increased as business demands change.

As demand for digital services is increasing rapidly, businesses are deploying processing power in new places. The Vertiv MegaMod and Vertiv MegaMod Plus solutions offer up to 25 percent more rack and cooling capacity, enabling clients to expand core-to-edge data center networks and deploy more computing capacity quickly with lower upfront costs, higher predictability and reduced risk.

Vertiv's PFM data center solutions can help businesses reduce deployment times by up to 40 percent compared to a traditional data center build. Viktor Petik, Vice President and EMEA Leader for Vertiv's Integrated Modular Solutions business, said, "Prefabricated modular data centers like Vertiv MegaMod enable stakeholders to act quickly." Vertiv also offers end-to-end services, including deployment, commissioning, remote monitoring, and training, for a smooth start-up and seamless operations.

A new study by OMDIA and Vertiv shows that modular data centers will play a crucial part in the future of the industry. The survey, which enlisted 228 data center operators and owners worldwide, reports that 52% have already implemented modular systems. Meanwhile, 93% of respondents will use modular data centers or auxiliary systems, with 34% currently having more than 10 operational modules and nearly all planning to use them for building new data centers. Liquid cooling was found to be the preferred option for 23% of survey participants, with 39% choosing hybrid air-liquid solutions.

Over four out of five experts implementing modular data centers prefer universal all-in-one modules. The surveyed participants believe that modular solutions are more practical than traditional data centers, offering optimized costs, reliable deployment and increased speed. Allied Market Research predicts that the turnover of the global modular data center market will reach $59.97 billion by 2027, growing at an average annual rate of 18.7%.

The first version, "SmartMod," represents a paradigm shift in data center deployment by offering a fully integrated and factory-tested design. This approach ensures that businesses can rapidly deploy their data center infrastructure with minimal on-site construction and streamlined installation processes. SmartMod is designed to accommodate various IT loads while delivering high levels of reliability and energy efficiency.
On the other hand, the "PowerModule" version focuses specifically on power and cooling infrastructure. It offers adaptable configurations to meet the diverse needs of businesses, allowing them to optimize their data center setup according to their specific requirements. By providing flexible power and cooling options, PowerModule enables businesses to effectively manage their IT loads while maintaining operational resilience.

These prefabricated modular data center solutions from Vertiv are strategically positioned to address the escalating demand for scalable and cost-effective data center infrastructure. By leveraging these solutions, businesses can significantly reduce their time-to-market for new data center deployments, ultimately leading to improved operational efficiency and accelerated business outcomes.

In today's digitally driven economy, the agility and scalability offered by Vertiv's prefabricated modular data center solutions are crucial for enterprises aiming to stay ahead in a highly competitive landscape. With the ability to swiftly adapt to evolving business needs, these solutions empower organizations to build a strong foundation for their digital transformation journey.

Vertiv's MegaMod and MegaMod Plus might seem like a panacea for the modern data center, but are they really addressing the core issues? The focus on rapid deployment and scalability could lead to a cookie-cutter approach that overlooks the unique needs of individual businesses.

Furthermore, the reliance on prefabricated solutions raises questions about customization and adaptability in a rapidly changing tech landscape. Are we sacrificing performance for speed?
