Can you recommend a reliable DNS service that meets the following criteria:

- supports multiple domains
- is free of charge
- allows for adding MX, CNAME, and SRV records
- provides the option to add entries manually (without relying solely on support)

Any additional recommendations or suggestions are appreciated.

In my opinion, Zerigo is an outstanding hosting provider, even for their free plans. However, I ultimately decided to pay $40 per year and upgrade to a paid plan :-).

Their free plan includes support for up to 3 domains, 30 records, and 50,000 requests per month. Additionally, Zerigo supports the use of wildcard domains and provides access to 6 servers located across the US, UK, Netherlands, and Singapore.

Their API is robust and the interface is very user-friendly (in my opinion). When compared to other hosting providers, I found Zerigo to be the best fit for my needs and I have not regretted my decision to use them.

It's worth noting that when selecting a hosting provider, it's important to consider your specific needs in terms of traffic, security, and other factors. It's also a good idea to read reviews and compare providers before making a final decision.

Has Google been insufficient in the past?

One option is to use a low-cost VDS and configure it yourself. However, it's worth considering whether saving money is worth the potential risks and complications that can come with self-configuration.

In my opinion, it's better to pay a slightly higher fee (such as the $1 per month cost of Amazon Route53) and gain access to a reliable and professionally managed DNS service. By doing so, you can rest easy knowing that your website's DNS is in good hands and focus on other aspects of your online presence.

Ultimately, the decision of which DNS provider to use will depend on your individual needs and preferences. It may be helpful to conduct research and compare different providers before making a final choice.

I'd like to recommend a reliable DNS service that aligns with the criteria you've outlined. One great option is "Cloudflare." It offers support for multiple domains and provides these features free of charge. Cloudflare allows users to add MX, CNAME, and SRV records easily through their user-friendly interface, giving you the flexibility and control you need for your domains.

Additionally, Cloudflare provides the option to add entries manually, empowering you to manage your DNS settings without relying solely on support. Their platform is designed to be intuitive, so even if you're new to managing DNS records, you should find it accessible and straightforward.

For additional recommendations or suggestions, I would advise considering the overall performance and reliability of the DNS service, as these aspects are crucial for ensuring your websites and email services are consistently available to your audience. It's also beneficial to review the security features offered by the DNS provider to safeguard your domains from potential threats.

Furthermore, it's important to consider the scalability of the DNS service, especially if you anticipate growth in your online presence. A provider that can accommodate your future expansion needs will save you from the hassle of migrating to a new DNS service as your requirements evolve.
While there are several DNS services available, Cloudflare stands out as a reliable choice that meets your specified criteria and offers additional benefits in terms of performance, security, and scalability.
