Due to my host experiencing a DDoS attack, I faced difficulties in ensuring the availability of my sites. As a result, all of my projects were down since they were hosted on the same site. In order to resolve this issue, I decided to register a new domain and transfer my important data to a new hosting provider. However, I found myself confronted with a choice:

1. Pay for two hostings from different companies to have a backup option if something goes wrong. Despite the added security, this would double the hosting cost, which seems unnecessary for a year's time.

2. On the recommendation of a friend, I attempted to utilize the Amazon cloud as a virtual server, with payment based on usage duration. Though this option seemed promising, I struggled with the technical complexities involved and my limited proficiency in English.

Given that my current hosting costs $2 per month, I am seeking a "smart" solution that is both cost-effective and temporary.

Preparing in advance and understanding the technical nuances is crucial for implementing an elegant solution. One possible approach is to utilize services that offer payment based on actual load or hourly usage, rather than paying for a reserve that may not be necessary.

Some popular options include Amazon, Heroku, Google Cloud Hosting, Vscale, and Digital Ocean. These platforms provide flexible pricing models that can suit your needs.

To enhance resilience against DDoS attacks, it is recommended to manage your DNS with providers that support Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). This ensures that your DNS remains operational even during such attacks. Zilore is an example of such a provider.

Another strategy is to register two or three servers in the DNS A-record, distributing the workload among them. In this way, the browser will select the server that responds first. It's important to host these servers with different providers to mitigate the risk of service disruption.

This multi-server setup not only helps defend against DDoS attacks but also improves accessibility from various regions. I recently implemented this approach myself after realizing that 0.5% of the country's providers couldn't access my site on one host, while another 1% (from different cities) faced similar issues.

There is even an option that is practically cost-free: developing a backup and recovery plan. This involves creating a script to automatically copy all data (files, databases) to your home computer every day at midnight. It's important to also develop a clear plan for restoring this data onto a clean server, ensuring a smooth recovery process without any surprises or issues.

In addition to this backup strategy, it's advisable to choose a few VPS providers that can quickly provide you with a server when needed. For example, Hetzner is known for its fast server provisioning, while OVH may take longer, sometimes up to a day. By having these providers on standby, you can continue to operate on a single server and pay for only one, while having the backups readily available. It is crucial to regularly test your ability to restore everything from the backups, ideally at least every six months.

If you find yourself in a situation where you need to quickly set up a new VPS within 20 minutes, you can follow the existing plan, unpack your sites on the new server, and update the DNS settings to redirect traffic seamlessly.

Given that your current hosting costs, it might be more cost-effective to consider option 2: utilizing the Amazon cloud as a virtual server. This option provides scalability and payment based on usage duration, which can be beneficial in the short term and can potentially lower costs compared to paying for two hostings.

To address the technical complexities and language barrier, you could seek assistance from a professional who has experience with cloud hosting or consider using Amazon Web Services (AWS) support resources, which are available in multiple languages. Additionally, there are many online tutorials and guides available in different languages that can help you navigate through the setup process.

By choosing the Amazon cloud option, you can benefit from its flexibility, scalability, and cost-effectiveness, while also ensuring the availability and security of your sites in the face of DDoS attacks. It provides a temporary solution that meets your requirements without doubling the hosting cost.

In the event of a hosting crash, a temporary shelter can be an essential requirement for ensuring the safety and well-being of affected individuals. Here are some key points to consider when it comes to providing temporary shelter in such situations:

1.    Safety and Security:    The first priority is ensuring that the temporary shelter is in a safe and secure location, away from any potential hazards or ongoing dangers.

2.    Accessibility:    The shelter should be easily accessible to those who need it, and efforts should be made to ensure that it is available to all affected individuals, regardless of their background or circumstances.

3.    Basic Facilities:    The temporary shelter should provide basic facilities such as sleeping arrangements, sanitation, clean water, and limited food supplies to meet immediate needs.

4.    Temporary Housing Options:    Depending on the scale of the hosting crash, temporary housing solutions can range from large-scale emergency shelters in community centers or schools to smaller, individualized options like tents or portable shelters.

5.    Support Services:    Access to medical care, counseling, and support services for those affected by the crash should be available either at the shelter or in close proximity.

6.    Coordination with Authorities and Relief Agencies:    Coordination with local authorities and relief agencies is crucial to ensure that the temporary shelter operations are aligned with broader response efforts and are effectively addressing the needs of the impacted individuals.

7.    Communication and Information:    Clear communication channels should be established to inform affected individuals about the location of the temporary shelter, the services available, and any relevant updates on the situation.
