Greetings,

My intention is to establish a company that produces game servers, starting with cs 1.6. However, I am uncertain where to start. Though I am a web developer, experienced in creating websites and forums, my knowledge of servers is limited.

Following the creation of my website and forum, I am unsure what steps to take. Though I understand the necessity of renting a server, I am uncertain of the configuration required for running cs 1.6. Moreover, I lack knowledge about installing the game on the server, and what prerequisites are necessary.

It is worth noting that as English is my second language, I apologize if my phrasing is incorrect.

Hello,

May I inquire why you have chosen cs 1.6 over Minecraft? I was just curious about your preference.

In any case, I would recommend seeking a technical business partner who can assist in setting up the server aspect for you. Often times, there are members in forums who are searching for like-minded partners. If this is something that interests you, it would be prudent to make requests on relevant parts of the forum(s).

Moreover, the specifics of the server configuration largely depend on factors such as the number of users or servers you intend to operate and your marketing skills.

The AWS Shield Standard should already provide basic protection, which is free of charge to all AWS customers against the most common and frequently occurring network and transport layer DDoS attacks. However, it is unclear how the protection works, when it works and when it will specifically protect your website or applications. Although my game server falls under the TCP protocol that may be covered by this protection, I cannot determine if it covers EC2 machines that have a direct connection not through ELB.

To ensure explicit DDoS protection, you still need to rely on AWS Shield Advanced, which provides additional protection to internet-facing applications running on EC2, Elastic Load Balancing (ELB), Amazon CloudFront, AWS Global Accelerator, and Amazon Route 53. This advanced protection requires a subscription of $3,000 per month and sends its activity to CloudWatch.

You need a reliable hosting provider that offers dedicated or VPS servers. Look for one with low latency and good bandwidth, as these are crucial for gaming performance. Once you have your server, you'll need to install a compatible operating system, typically Windows or Linux. For CS 1.6, many opt for Linux due to its stability and resource efficiency.

Next, install SteamCMD, the command-line tool that allows you to download and manage game servers. Use it to pull the CS 1.6 server files. After installation, configure your server settings in the server.cfg file, adjusting parameters like player limits and game modes. Don't forget to set up port forwarding if you're behind a router.

If you're serious about this venture, you should invest time in learning about server management and optimization.
