Hey all. Can you guys suggest methods for lessen the strain on my hosting? I got an email from the hosting provider saying they will turn off my hosting due to high load.
But I only get around 10-40 visitors daily, so what kind of load is that? How can I resolve this issue?

It's possible that the load is coming from factors other than just the number of visitors. First, you should focus on optimizing your website. High-resolution images can significantly slow down your site, so compressing your images and using the right formats is important. Tools like TinyPNG can help with that, making sure your images don't take up too much space.

Another strategy is to implement caching. This will let your website serve static pages instead of having to generate them anew for each visitor. If you use WordPress, there are various plugins like W3 Total Cache that can make caching easy for you. Also, considering the use of a Content Delivery Network (CDN) can greatly improve loading times by serving your content from servers located closer to your users. This will decrease the strain on your main hosting server.

You should also analyze your traffic patterns using analytics tools. Sometimes, bots or scripts can create a lot of strain that you might not notice with just basic visitor counts. Checking your active plugins and removing any poorly coded or unnecessary ones can help as well. It might be a good idea to switch to a more lightweight theme if your current one appears to be too heavy.

Don't forget about your database. If you're using a CMS, it's crucial to keep it optimized by cleaning out old revisions or spam comments. For automated tasks like emails or backups, scheduling them during off-peak hours can reduce strain when you have higher traffic.

Utilize tools like Google PageSpeed Insights or GTmetrix to catch issues before they escalate. If after all these steps you still face problems, it might be worth considering an upgrade to your hosting plan. Sometimes shared hosting simply cannot handle even low-traffic websites during times of peak load. By taking these steps, you can hopefully lessen the load and improve your site's overall performance.

maybe some bot could be visiting your website too many times, right? It be possible to limit access for specific groups of IP addresses, particularly those that are showing up more than usual.

have you check the number of hosts that your visitor counter is reporting?

First, locate the directory called /logs/ within your hosting environment. In this folder, you'll find the file site.ru.access.log. Use notepad to open this file, unless it's bigger than one megabyte; in that case, switch to notepad++. Check the recent lines in the log—if there're many entries, such as 15 per second, it could indicate an attempted hack, like this example:

185.123.62.19 - - [12/May/2024:15:44:50 +0200] "GET /wp-login.php HTTP/1.1

Currently, I'm experiencing a heavy load on the coopertino host, and I'm trying to pinpoint the cause, though I suspect there are various factors at play.
