Hello!
Our company has decided to migrate our websites to the https protocol. As a result, there will be multiple domain names and subdomains linked to one physical address. The purpose of this migration is to enable the selling of digital content via our websites.

Could you please provide us with some guidance on SSL certificates? We are looking for a certificate that can help us achieve our goals of sales and domain validation on a physical face. Additionally, we would like to know the minimum cost of the certificate, the recommended certification authority to use, and which dealer sells the certificate at the lowest price.

Thank you for your assistance.

I am currently using Let's Encrypt SSL certificates. The presence of a green stripe on a website does not necessarily guarantee more purchases, as this feature is not widely known to the public. In addition, many payment gateways provide their own SSL certificates with green stripes for secure transactions.

There are several advantages to using Let's Encrypt:
They are easy to obtain, requiring only three clicks
,  their renewal process is automatic, making the certificate seem eternal
Let's Encrypt was one of the pioneers in promoting HTTPS and is considered reliable.

Based on my experience, I believe that many paid certificates do not surpass the quality of Let's Encrypt SSL certificates.

Let's discuss the different versions of SSL and TLS and their hierarchy. The SSL/TLS system is built on trust in the Certificate Authority (CA). For instance, Verisign is the root certificate that certifies the channels of the largest CA.

The process involves a conversation between the client and server:

Client (c): Who are you?
Server(s): I am website.com
c: What can you prove?
s: Well, SmallCA knows me
c: Why should I trust SmallCA's words?
s: Verisign certifies the authenticity of its answer.
c: Oh, VeriSign! Then I will trust you since Verisign is reputable and well-known. It's even listed on NASDAQ and owns Thawte.

Overall, the SSL/TLS system relies on trust in the CAs and their certificates.

Firstly, it's important to understand that there are different types of SSL certificates available, and the choice depends on your specific requirements. In your case, since you mentioned the goal of sales and domain validation, a good option would be an Extended Validation (EV) SSL certificate. EV SSL certificates provide the highest level of validation and trust to your users by displaying a green address bar in most web browsers.

When it comes to cost, EV SSL certificates tend to be more expensive compared to other types due to their rigorous validation process. The price varies depending on the certification authority (CA) you choose and the additional features they offer. It's advisable to contact different CAs directly to get accurate pricing information as it can vary over time.

In terms of recommended CAs, some well-known and trusted options include DigiCert, Sectigo, and GlobalSign. These CAs have a solid reputation and offer EV SSL certificates. However, it's always a good idea to research and compare different CAs to find the one that meets your specific needs and budget.

As for finding the dealer selling the certificate at the lowest price, I'd recommend checking with multiple resellers or hosting providers to compare prices. Many CAs have partnerships with resellers who can offer discounted rates. Be cautious when choosing a reseller and ensure they are reputable and authorized by the CA.

selecting the right SSL certificate is a crucial decision, so take the time to evaluate your options carefully and consider factors like validation level, brand reputation, customer support, and of course, cost.
