Game Hosting

Hello, I have a few inquiries, and I'm confident that you all can help me find the satisfactory answers. About three weeks ago, I perceived an opportunity to open a game web hosting company since there aren't many game hosting providers in my country, and finding customers shouldn't be a challenge. So, I have planned out everything and created my website, installed WHMCS for billing automation, and acquired a VPS to check how WHMCS and TCadmin automation would function.

Thus, I intend to rent a dedicated server from OVH with specific requirements, including an Intel I7-4790K processor, 16GB DDR3 1600 MHz RAM, SoftRAID 2x240 SSD disks, and 250 Mbit/s of usage. Although I am starting by selling only the CS:GO server, my query is whether this machine can hold up to 160 slots on 128tick?

My primary question is that a dedicated server with TCAdmin will cost approximately $85 per month, and I will need to sell at least 110 slots/month to break even. Any remaining slots will be my profit. However, if someone buys a csr server at the end of the month (i.e. in 20-25 days), how can I manage it? And how do game hosting companies usually resolve such issues?

I hope you can assist me with this.

If you require easier break-even points, I would suggest using a larger server. With a small server, you have to be concerned about the number of available small servers. For instance, one server with 80 slots does not equal four servers with 20 slots. Additionally, when it comes to the activity of these servers, selling 160 slots is different from selling 4-8 servers with 160 slots.

As a business, it's important to have sufficient start-up capital to operate without worrying about disabling one server if you do not get paid. The issue of customers paying at a different time than when you initially paid shouldn't exist, and you can set the billing day accordingly. If you want proportional billing, you can set it up in WHMCS (Settings -> Products/Services -> Products Page/Services) by finding proportional billing and proportional dates in the Prices section.

Even though selling OVH at your facility may seem to cut down on the concept of "the games are not hosted in my country," it can still work if you sell based on local support and sales.

I recently purchased hosting from SRVGame for two ARK SE game servers, and their support service - which is meant to cater to individuals who do not understand any of the services - left much to be desired. Within one week, the servers went down three times for a significant period, and the administration did not even apologize for the inconvenience. Instead, they informed me that there would be no refunds and that I should not complain. This is a disgusting attitude towards clients. Furthermore, the auto-save servers and clustering do not function properly.

In conclusion, I strongly advise not to use SRVGame as it will only lead to wasted money.

Regarding the server specifications, an Intel I7-4790K processor and 16GB RAM should be sufficient for hosting game servers like CS:GO with 160 slots on 128tick. However, it's always a good idea to monitor the server's performance and make sure it can handle the load effectively. If you notice any performance issues, you might need to consider upgrading the server hardware or optimizing your configuration.

In regards to managing purchases towards the end of the month, game hosting companies typically handle this by employing a prorated billing system. This means that if someone buys a CS:GO server with only a few days left in the current month, they will only be charged for those remaining days, rather than the full month. It helps ensure fair pricing for your customers while also maintaining a steady stream of revenue for your company.

To implement prorated billing in WHMCS, you can set up custom billing cycles, calculate the remaining days of the month, and charge accordingly. There are also plugins and modules available that can automate this process for you. Make sure to communicate clearly with your customers about how the billing system works to avoid any confusion.

Overall, it seems like you have a solid plan in place. Just remember to continually monitor your server performance, provide excellent customer support, and stay up-to-date with the latest trends in game hosting. Good luck with your new venture!
