Hi Friends,

I have a product-selling website, and I want to index certain pages so that they are visible only to people in a particular country. What should I do for that?

You can submit your url into the search engine submission directory to that particular country.

Under the "Settings" menu, click on "International Targeting." Here, you can specify the countries you want to target. Use Country-Specific Domain Extensions: If you want to target a specific country, consider using a country-specific domain extension

You can achieve geo-targeted indexing by implementing the following strategies:

Google Search Console (GSC): Set up GSC for your website and use the "International Targeting" section to specify the target country for each page. Google will then prioritize showing these pages to users in the specified country.

IP-based redirection: Use server-side scripts to redirect users based on their IP addresses. This can be done using Apache's mod_rewrite or Nginx's rewrite rules. However, be aware that this might lead to a suboptimal user experience if users from other countries are accidentally redirected.

HTTP headers: Use HTTP headers like X-Clacks-Overhead or Vary: Accept-Language to signal Google about the intended audience for each page. This can help improve the relevance of your pages in search results for specific regions.

Country-specific URLs: Create separate URLs for each target country, such as example.com/us/product-page for the United States and example.com/uk/product-page for the United Kingdom. Google will recognize these URLs as being specific to certain countries.

To make a web page index and be visible in search results in a particular country, you need to focus on geo-targeting and local SEO practices. For eg. Use a country-code top-level domain like .in, .uk, .ca (e.g., example.in) for strong geo-targeting. Or If using a global TLD like .com, use a structure like:

  • in.example.com (subdomain)
  • example.com/in/ (subdirectory)
