Title: Webhosting provider
Post by: KellenFoster on Dec 04, 2022, 05:56 AM
There's a hosting provider that goes by the name starting with "major". I used to have about 150 sites hosted there, but two years ago I moved some of them to other providers. Overall, I was happy with the cost and the stability of my websites.

Recently, there seems to be a new effective manager who introduced a paid "antivirus" scanning service called Revision. However, I kept receiving reminders to connect to the full package of services and pay without questioning.

I ignored the email and on December 1, all the sites on one of the servers were infected with a virus. This seems unusual since the code was not linked to any hacked plugins. It begs the question, do they not care about their clients? This is a serious issue and could be considered criminal if you follow the chain of infection.

In the end, the pursuit of money will ruin the business. Whoever introduced such conditions should take full responsibility, and it's likely that law enforcement officers will step in to deal with this issue.

Spread this information widely: "Vote by bucks."
They will eventually disappear on their own. Prepaying large amounts of money is always risky because even though it may lead to some savings, the potential losses can be significant. Should you sue them? It may not be worth your time and effort, especially if the virus disappears and all the evidence disappears with it.

I know from personal experience since I used to keep a resource there for a long time, but even they started raising their prices before I took my business elsewhere. It's essential to keep an eye out for service providers who prioritize their bottom line over quality and integrity.

It's really disappointing when a provider prioritizes upselling services over maintaining the security and trust of their clients. The fact that your sites were infected despite not using any compromised plugins is indeed suspicious. It raises questions about the integrity of their security measures and whether they might be neglecting basic protections to push their paid services.

In my experience, any reputable hosting company should offer a baseline level of security without charging extra for essential protections like antivirus scanning. The sudden push for a paid service, followed by an infection, does seem like a questionable coincidence. It's crucial for hosting providers to maintain transparency and prioritize client safety over profit.

If they're not taking client security seriously, it's not only bad business practice but could also border on legal negligence. You might want to consider dоcumenting everything and consulting with a legal professional to explore your options. It's possible that other clients are facing similar issues, and a collective approach might be necessary.

In the meantime, I would recommend moving your sites to a more reliable provider and implementing your own security measures. Regular backups, using reputable security plugins, and keeping everything updated are essential steps to protect your sites.

A web hosting provider serves as your website's residence on the internet, providing server space and technology to maintain your site's accessibility. Their primary focus is on ensuring reliability, speed, and security, enabling you to concentrate on content creation. Selecting the appropriate provider with different plans and features can greatly enhance your online presence!

Their push for a paid antivirus service, coupled with the subsequent infection of your sites, suggests a lack of genuine concern for client security. It's troubling that they would allow such vulnerabilities to exist while simultaneously promoting a service that implies their systems are inadequate. This approach not only undermines trust but also raises questions about their ethical responsibility.
If they are unwilling to provide a secure environment without additional fees, they are failing their clients
