Title: My Site on Someone Else's Domain
Post by: Barberaxy on Aug 02, 2023, 06:16 AM
Good evening. The question is sensitive - how can one protect oneself and take action?
The crux of the matter is this: today I discovered that my website A is being fully displayed on someone else's domain B. Initially, I thought that maybe my site had been hijacked... but no, I was able to log in to domain B and check phpinfo - it confirmed that it was my server. Curious, I then looked up the domain WHOIS and found out that the NS hosting addresses belonged to jino. The technical support team made it clear that someone had entered the A record of the server's IP address on jino, and advised me to contact the hosting provider directly. I have written a complaint to them and now I am awaiting a response... I assume I will receive an answer on Monday.

Domain B already has 400+ pages indexed by Google... meanwhile, my domain A is experiencing a decline in rankings and missing pages.

Question: How can one combat such acts of lawlessness? And what steps should I take? This is the first time I have encountered such a situation.

Keep in mind that it's important to consult with a legal professional to get accurate guidance tailored to your specific circumstances.

1. dоcument the evidence: Gather all relevant information and evidence related to the incident. This includes screenshots, server logs, email correspondence with your hosting provider, and any other supporting dоcumentation.

2. Contact your hosting provider: Notify your hosting provider about the issue and provide them with all the evidence you have collected. Depending on their policies, they may be able to assist you in resolving the situation or guide you on the next steps to take.

3. Consider legal action: If the hosting provider is unable to resolve the issue or if you believe your rights have been violated, consult with a lawyer who specializes in internet law or intellectual property to understand your legal options. They can help you determine if pursuing legal action is appropriate and guide you through the process.

4. Monitor and mitigate damage: Keep a close eye on your website's performance, rankings, and any further instances of unauthorized duplication. Take steps to mitigate damage by working on improving your website's SEO, submitting DMCA takedown notices to search engines and domain registrars, and taking necessary technical measures to secure your website.

If you're looking for additional steps to take in combatting such acts of lawlessness, here are a few more suggestions:

1. Take down requests: If your content is being hosted on another website without your permission, you can file a takedown request with the website's hosting provider or domain registrar. They may have procedures in place to handle copyright infringement or unauthorized use of content.

2. Monitor online platforms: Keep an eye on various online platforms, including social media, forums, and discussion boards, to identify any instances of your content being used without permission. Report such cases to the platform administrators or moderators so they can take appropriate action.

3. Strengthen security measures: Review the security measures on your own website to ensure that it is less susceptible to hacking or unauthorized access. Use strong passwords, enable two-factor authentication, keep your software and plugins up to date, and regularly monitor your website for any suspicious activities.

4. SEO efforts: While your rankings may have been affected by the unauthorized duplication, continue your SEO efforts to regain and improve your search rankings. Create high-quality content, optimize your website for search engines, and consider seeking professional help in optimizing your website's SEO.

5. Consider publicizing the issue: Depending on the severity of the situation, you may choose to publicly address the issue. This could involve writing a blog post or sharing your experience on relevant industry websites or forums. By bringing attention to the issue, you may receive support from the community or even discover others who have faced similar situations.

Inform the server (perhaps apache?) that it should exclusively respond to your domain and cease responding to any other domains. Once this adjustment is made, the problem will autonomously resolve itself.

In order to ensure that the server only responds to your site, you may need to modify its configuration settings. By restricting its response to your specific domain, you can prevent any potential conflicts or issues with other domains. This simple adjustment can significantly improve the performance and reliability of your website.

Valid php code:

<?php
if ($_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'] != 'domain') {
    exit();
}
?>
