Title: Website on hosting freezes after initial load
Post by: shakilbds on Feb 20, 2023, 01:32 AM
a website is hosted and has been intermittently loading for the past few months. The first 3-5 clicks load normally, but thereafter it hangs on the status bar with "waiting for www.****.com" and takes about a minute to load.

This occurs repeatedly throughout the visit. Strangely, the problem only appears on one laptop at home. The issue originally appeared on one website, but expanded to all websites from the same account, even spreading to other sites on the same hosting. Reinstalling Windows proved to be ineffective; the only solution found was using an anonymizer which isn't practical for everyday use.
There are two possible explanations; either the hosting sites have been blocked on the laptop or some restriction has been placed on the hosting for the laptop. Consequently, what steps should be taken to rectify this issue still remains unresolved.

Initially, I experienced a hosting issue and thus reached out to the hosting technical support for assistance. However, after further examination, it was discovered that my internet provider was responsible for the site "dropping out" of the display. With aid from the provider, the issue was ultimately resolved. Considering this, two solutions exist: changing hosting services (perhaps the servers are the cause of the issue) or communicating with one's internet provider. Additionally, when contacting tech support, they suggested pinging the site from a computer in order to access it.

Have you ever attempted utilizing Google's DNS server, 8.8.8.8, in your network configuration? Frequently, internet service providers utilize inadequate DNS servers resulting in intermittent connectivity issues.

Using a reliable DNS server can significantly improve your internet experience. It's worth exploring different options if you're experiencing connectivity issues.

Cache mechanisms play a crucial role in improving website performance. Storing frequently used data in "cache memory" ensures that recurring content requests are served from it, speeding up the process of getting data. However, overdoing caching puts an increased load on the web server. Configuring caching entities such as HTTP requests, database requests, and images significantly improves site performance.

The poor quality of code is also a common reason for slow website operation. Unnecessary comments, excessive spaces, inline styles, and empty lines lead to an increase in the size of stylesheet files. By reducing the code, you can reduce file size and page loading time, and witness improvements in SEO optimization. If you find it challenging to clean stylesheet files or write code, you can use various tools to reduce the files or seek assistance from professional web studios.

GZIP compression is a straightforward way to increase the speed of site loading by compressing the transmitted web traffic up to 90%.

Advertisements are often unnecessary HTTP requests that slow down page loading. Use them only where they work and provide a good return on investment.

CDN is a distributed network of servers located in different geographical locations, delivering web content with high speed and performance. By serving all incoming requests for content using the server closest to the visitor, CDN minimizes the round-trip time (RTT) and provides the requested content much faster. Using CDN helps websites and applications maintain stability and improve loading speed, especially when visitors are located far away from the hosting server. Selectel has more than 37 points of presence, CIS countries, and Europe, over 300 cache servers, and a network capacity of more than 10 Tbit/s.

To troubleshoot this issue, here are a few steps you can take:

1. Check for software/firewall restrictions: Ensure that there are no firewall rules or antivirus settings on your laptop that may be blocking access to the hosting sites. Disable any VPN or proxy settings that may interfere with the connection.

2. Try accessing the websites on a different browser: If you are using a specific browser that is experiencing the issue, try accessing the websites on a different browser to see if the problem persists. This will help determine if the issue is browser-specific.

3. Clear browser cache and cookies: Clearing the cache and cookies of your browser can often resolve loading issues. Go to your browser's settings, clear the cache and cookies, and then try accessing the websites again.

4. Update or reinstall the browser: Ensure that your browser is up to date. If it is already up to date, consider reinstalling the browser to eliminate any possible configuration issues.

5. Contact the website hosting support: Reach out to the support team of the websites you are experiencing issues with. They might be able to provide insights or assistance in resolving the problem.

6. Check network settings: Verify that there are no network restrictions or proxies set up on your laptop that might be causing the delay. Resetting your network settings or trying a different network connection (e.g., connecting to a different Wi-Fi network) might also help identify the source of the issue.

7. Seek professional help: If the problem persists after trying these steps, it may be worth consulting a professional IT technician who can investigate further and provide more specific guidance based on the laptop's configuration and setup.

Here are some additional steps you can take to further investigate and resolve the issue:

1. Test on a different network: Try accessing the websites from a different network, such as a friend's house or a public Wi-Fi hotspot. If the problem disappears on a different network, it suggests that there might be an issue with your home network or internet service provider. Contact your ISP to check if there are any restrictions or issues specific to your connection.

2. Check DNS settings: Ensure that your laptop's DNS settings are configured correctly. You can try switching to a different DNS server, such as Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4), to see if it improves the loading speed. Instructions on changing DNS settings can be found online based on your operating system.

3. Scan for malware: Malware infections can sometimes interfere with website access. Run a thorough scan using reliable antivirus or anti-malware software to check for any potential threats on your laptop.

4. Update firmware and drivers: Make sure that your laptop's firmware, operating system, and network drivers are up to date. Outdated software can sometimes cause compatibility issues that slow down website loading.

5. Disable browser extensions: Some browser extensions may conflict with website loading or introduce unnecessary delays. Temporarily disable all extensions and re-enable them one by one to identify if any particular extension is causing the problem.

6. Perform a traceroute: Use the command prompt or terminal to run a traceroute to the hosting sites in question. This will help identify any network bottlenecks or delays along the route to the websites. Share the traceroute results with the hosting support team for further analysis.

7. Consider hardware or network issues: If all else fails, it's possible that there may be hardware-related issues with your laptop or network card. Contact a professional technician for assistance in diagnosing and resolving any potential hardware problems.

The intermittent loading issue you're experiencing could be due to DNS propagation issues or your laptop's caching problems. First, flush your DNS using the command ipconfig /flushdns in Command Prompt. Next, clear your browser cache and cookies. If the problem persists, it might be a hosting issue.
I'd recommend reaching out to your hosting provider for further assistance. They can check for any IP or domain blockages and optimize their servers to improve load times.
