The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) announced the E-waste (Management) Rules in 2016 that established specific responsibilities for producers, importers, and manufacturers of electronic equipment in India. These rules required Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), placing responsibility on the producer to collect and properly dispose of e-waste from end-of-life products. Any company in India covered by these regulations was required to obtain appropriate authorizations to continue operating.
