Title: How to get client base for hosting reselling?
Post by: akeelow on Aug 04, 2022, 02:13 AM
Before setting up my reselling website, I aim to secure a minimum of 20 clients. What are some effective strategies for building a solid client base?

It's important to recognize the abundance of hosting providers equipped with physical servers available nowadays. However, there is still a continuous influx of novices who don't require complex hosting services but still crave the opportunity to experiment with website creation, CMS installation, or database management.

Around one year ago, I myself began considering the possibility of reseller-based hosting and now operate a hosting company, **-****.fr. As such, I feel qualified to offer some advice.

It's advisable to start by acquiring your first few clients - this will lend credibility to your business. Begin by creating a simple website that includes a background, logo, greeting, and 2-3 pages (including a pricing page, even if the rates are just estimates) so you have something to show potential customers.

Next, determine who to buy reselling from (feel free to contact me privately for tips). Save at least $30-50 to buy a reseller account for a minimum of three months, then purchase a Cpanel script for $30. Install, configure, and start operating.

To get your customer base started, consider offering discounts and special conditions to members of forums where people express interest in small websites or FTP file storage. Business training courses often encourage starting with friends and acquaintances, so reach out to them and negotiate placing a link to your hosting on their resources or other forms of cooperation.

Personally, I established my office, advertised it in just a few forums (even ones that weren't particularly well-known), went to bed, and had my first client pay for an entire year of hosting by the morning.

The reselling model is fairly straightforward. In this scenario, a small business owner - the reseller - offers services from a large data center owned by Ivan without disclosing this information to their clients. The selling party is often referred to as the provider, while the reseller sells the services under their own brand.

Although manual processing of customer orders through email is an option, entrepreneurs often prefer the ease and reliability of automated payment acceptance, service issuance, and dоcument generation. The automation software BILLmanager provides a solution.

Organizing reselling in BILLmanager is not complicated. The provider simply needs to create special tariffs for the resellers and establish the service provision policy. The reseller must then create a new type of service and integrate billing with the provider's billing by copying their tariffs. After this simple process, the reseller can resell services under their own brand and billing system.

One effective strategy for building a solid client base before setting up your reselling website is to leverage social media platforms. Create engaging content that showcases your expertise in website creation, CMS installation, and database management. Offer tips, tutorials, and insights that appeal to novices looking to experiment with these aspects of website development.

Additionally, consider reaching out to local businesses and organizations to offer your services pro bono or at a discounted rate in exchange for testimonials and referrals. This can help you establish a strong reputation and word-of-mouth marketing within your community.

Another approach could be to collaborate with complementary businesses, such as graphic designers or SEO specialists, to offer bundled services that provide added value to potential clients.

Furthermore, consider attending industry events and networking with professionals who may require your services or can refer you to others in need. Building a strong professional network can be a valuable asset in securing your initial client base.
Consider creating a compelling website that not only showcases your skills but also provides valuable resources and information for your target audience. Utilize search engine optimization (SEO) techniques to ensure your website is easily discoverable by those seeking the services you offer.

Hosting resellers have the ability to buy web hosting services in large quantities and then resell them to their own customers. This type of hosting allows individuals or businesses to enter the web hosting industry without having to handle the infrastructure themselves. Resellers are able to tailor plans, establish pricing, and offer customer support, all while utilizing the resources of existing hosting providers.

Use PPC campaigns targeting webmasters seeking reseller hosting, and partner with domainers for white-label solutions. Engage in social media outreach on LinkedIn and Reddit, offering free trials of cPanel-based reselling plans.

Network at tech conferences, pitch custom packages with unlimited bandwidth, and track conversions via analytics. Implement referral programs with tiered commissions to grow organically, ensuring compliance with ICANN regs.

1. Target a Specific Niche

Instead of selling hosting to everyone, focus on a specific group such as:

Small businesses

Bloggers

E-commerce store owners

Local businesses

Web designers or developers

Niche targeting makes it easier to market your services and build expertise.

2. Build a Professional Website

Create a professional website that clearly explains:

Hosting plans

Pricing

Features (storage, bandwidth, SSL, backups)

Customer support options

You can also add a blog to publish articles about website hosting, SEO, and online business tips to attract organic traffic.

3. Use SEO and Content Marketing

Write helpful articles such as:

"Best Hosting for Small Businesses"

"How to Start a Website for Your Business"

"Why Reliable Hosting is Important"

Good SEO can bring long-term traffic and potential clients.

4. Promote on Social Media

Use platforms like:

Facebook

LinkedIn

Instagram

Share tips, offers, hosting tutorials, and client success stories.

5. Partner with Web Designers and Developers

Many designers need hosting for their clients. Offer them:

Commission or referral fee

White-label hosting

Bulk hosting packages

This can bring continuous clients.

6. Offer Free Trials or Discounts

To attract first customers:

Offer 30-day free hosting trial

Give discount for first 3 months

Provide free website migration

Getting clients for hosting reselling is mostly about trust + visibility + solving a specific problem better than giant generic hosts. Competing on "cheap hosting" alone is brutal. Niching down works much better.

Here's a practical playbook that actually works for small hosting resellers:

Pick a Specific Niche First

Instead of "I sell hosting," position yourself like:

WordPress hosting for local businesses
Hosting for schools/coaching centers
Hosting for photographers
Hosting for Indian startups
Hosting for agencies
Hosting + maintenance bundles for doctors/lawyers/restaurants

People buy solutions, not server specs.

Example:

"Managed WordPress hosting for Karnataka small businesses with WhatsApp support."

That's stronger than:

"Unlimited SSD hosting ₹99/month."

Bundle Services (Huge Advantage)

Pure hosting margins are thin. Combine hosting with:

Website development
Domain setup
Email setup
Speed optimization
Security
Backups
Monthly maintenance
SEO basics

Many clients happily pay ₹2k–₹10k/month if they don't have to "deal with technical stuff."

Start With Local Businesses

This is the easiest path for early customers.

Search for businesses with:

Slow websites
Expired SSL
Broken mobile layouts
No website at all

Then contact them with a short improvement message.

Example outreach:

"Hi, I noticed your site loads slowly on mobile and doesn't have SSL configured properly. I help local businesses with fast hosting + maintenance. I can improve speed and security for a fixed monthly plan."

Don't spam thousands. Send 10 good personalized messages daily.

Build a Simple Portfolio Site

Your website should include:

Clear niche
Pricing
Speed screenshots
Testimonials
WhatsApp contact
Uptime promise
"Managed support" messaging

Add a few demo sites even if they're self-made.

Use Google Business Profile

Very underrated for local hosting/web services.

Create a profile for:

Web hosting
Website design
IT services

Encourage every customer to leave reviews.

This helps you rank locally.

Partner With Freelancers & Agencies

Many web designers hate server management.

Offer them:

White-label hosting
Revenue sharing
Free migration
Priority support

One agency can bring dozens of clients.

Good places to network:

LinkedIn
Facebook business groups
local startup communities
WordPress meetups
Offer Free Website Migration

This converts surprisingly well.

People fear moving hosts.

If you say:

"Zero downtime migration included"

you remove a huge barrier.

Create Helpful Content

Post practical content consistently:

"Best hosting setup for small businesses"
"How to speed up WordPress"
"Why emails go to spam"
"How to secure your website"

Platforms:

YouTube
LinkedIn
Instagram reels
X/Twitter
local Facebook groups

Even small audiences convert in hosting because trust matters more than virality.

Use WhatsApp Properly

In India especially, quick support closes deals.

Use:

Business WhatsApp
Catalog/pricing
Auto-replies
Status updates
Customer testimonials

Fast response beats big brands often.
