Title: The site was completely taken over
Post by: johncruz on Mar 14, 2023, 06:55 AM
Today I came across a website called btcinfa.com, which is essentially a replica of my site btcsec.com. However, there are some sections on btcinfa.com that were difficult to distort.

I have no issue with others copying information from my site as long as they provide proper attribution. But in this case, everything was shamelessly distorted, including the content and design, with the only change being the donation wallet.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any information about the owner of the domain, and it seems like they might be from our own country. Is there a way to contact them? Where should I report this violation in order to have the site shut down?

To be honest, it's quite perplexing why someone would go through all this trouble to distort a website that doesn't even have a significant following. Donations alone won't even cover the hosting costs. So, is the owner planning to monetize it through advertisements or something? The subject matter is too niche for that. In summary, I can't comprehend the motives behind this, but it's disheartening to see someone misrepresenting the content that has been created with so much time and effort, as if nothing had happened.

DDOS is our ultimate weapon. No matter how many times they change servers, we'll find them and take them down. Moreover, since they're just copying our popular resource, it won't be worth their while to invest a significant amount of money for minimal profit. It's way more cost-effective for them.

P.S. They say the enemy of my enemy is my friend. In situations like this, I believe in launching an honest DDOS attack rather than wasting time sending letters to hosting providers and pleading for the closure of these despicable individuals.

I encountered a similar situation as yours. I contacted the hosting provider responsible for hosting the stolen site and raised my concerns. Surprisingly, they showed a lack of concern and even suggested that I could take legal action if I wished to. However, they did mention that if there is a court order to shut down the site, they would suspend their hosting services.

It's disheartening to see such indifference from the hosting provider, especially when it comes to protecting intellectual property rights. In cases like these, it seems that legal action may be necessary to enforce any resolution. Let's hope that justice prevails and the site gets rightfully shut down.

About a year ago, I encountered a similar problem, although the motivations behind it were different. It seems that there are some hosts and providers who simply do not care about these issues, leaving us with very little hope for legal recourse.

However, there is a glimmer of hope. Search engines like Google have become smarter in detecting duplicate content. If they recognize that a site is a copy, they won't index it or display it prominently in search results. While I'm not entirely sure about Yandex's policies, it's likely that they also take measures to combat plagiarism.

This underscores the importance of originality and quality in creating online content. Despite the challenges we face, it's crucial to keep producing unique and valuable material that stands out from the sea of duplicates. Hopefully, over time, search engines and internet regulations can become even more effective in combating such issues.

In response to this situation, there are several steps you can take to address this infringement and protect your intellectual property. First and foremost, it's important to gather evidence of the violation. This includes capturing detailed screenshots of the replicated content, noting any significant deviations from your original design, and keeping records of any attempts you have made to reach out to the owner of btcinfa.com or the hosting company.

One avenue to explore is performing a WHOIS search to identify the owner of the domain. This will provide you with contact information that can be used to directly address the situation. If the WHOIS search does not yield the necessary information, you can report the violation to the web hosting company that is providing services to btcinfa.com. Most hosting providers have policies in place to address copyright infringement and may take action to shut down the site if they find it to be in violation of those policies.

Additionally, it's crucial to consider the legal aspects of this infringement. Seeking legal counsel or contacting an intellectual property attorney could provide valuable guidance on how to proceed and what options are available to you within the framework of copyright law.

Regarding the motives behind this replication, it is indeed perplexing why someone would go to such lengths to distort a niche website. While it's possible that the owner of btcinfa.com intends to monetize the site through advertisements or other means, it's worth noting that the subject matter may not be conducive to substantial monetization. Nonetheless, addressing the violation and protecting the integrity of your original work is paramount.
