Title: Can the site's promotion and rating be influenced by photos?
Post by: cabsco on Apr 14, 2023, 12:13 AM
Greetings to all!
I would like to draw your attention to something I heard recently. It is believed that photographs can impact search engines, and if the images on your website are not unique and appear on other websites as well, search engines may interpret this as plagiarism, which can lead to a decrease in search rankings.

Can you confirm if this is true or not?

The process of working with images is just as complex as working with a website as a whole. There are many ranking factors to consider beyond just having unique images, such as aspect ratio, quality, and contrast. It is recommended to start with Google's base rules for product images and then conduct experiments to observe basic recommendations.

An important factor in image optimization is providing all preview options to the search robot in appropriate resolutions for different screen types. The requirements for an image depend on the intent of the request - commercial or informational. Commercial requests require a white or light gray background, high contrast, few extra objects, and accessibility through the src attribute with additional links for preview files in different aspect ratios.
Informational requests do not have these requirements. Optimizing images without losing quality can speed up page loading and improve position ranking over time.

These are the basic requirements, but there are additional ones to consider. If a website with products that follow certain image rules has been a trusted source for Google and their images have been at the top, then following those same rules will likely lead to better search results.

For example, if a store sells planters with images of greenery on a gray monochrome background, taking photos of planters in a similar way could lead to better results. There are many subtleties to consider when working with images, and the importance of images is increasing compared to text.
But, the effectiveness of working with images may vary depending on the niche, and it may not be the most effective way to improve traffic and earnings. While Google may be affected by image optimization, the impact on Googleis insignificant. Nevertheless, all search engines are likely to be influenced by it in the future.

"What does site rating mean?"

Well, sometimes clever people edit photos to avoid duplications, and Google plays dumb about how to find them (Yandex wins there). In general, we can assume photos are important to the overall performance of a website, although exactly how to use them effectively is hard to say.

It's often useful to look at competitors and experiment to see what works. However, it's worth noting that photos are usually not very useful without accompanying text.

For <img src="" alt="description"/>, adjust the RGB profile minimally and slightly modify its size, and proportions if possible without affecting its appearance. This should suffice in majority of cases. Additionally, alter the metadata for further assurance.

Concerning background-images, search engines typically disregard them. If you have 20 background-images on your website, it may be difficult for the spider to determine which image corresponds with which text.
To ensure success, modify the image and conduct a search using the new version. If you cannot locate it after making changes, you have succeeded.

Yes, duplicate content, including images, can affect search engine rankings. Search engines prefer unique and original content, including images, and may penalize websites that use duplicate content. It is recommended to use original images or properly attribute the source of the images to avoid any negative impact on search rankings.

Images make any content more interesting and appealing by helping readers understand your content better. Plus, images add value to your SEO efforts by increasing user engagement and accessibility of your website.

Larger/better quality photos are better for ranking. Having a photo that matches what Google is looking for can have a positive impact on ranking. Having a photo that doesn't match can have a negative impact.

Uniqueness of images on a website can definitely have an impact on search engine optimizations, although it's a bit more nuanced than just stating that duplicate images will lead to plagiarism penalties. Search engines, like Google, prioritize original content because it provides a better user experience. If multiple sites are using the same image, it can make it more difficult for search engines to determine which site should rank higher for that content.
Search engines use various algorithms to analyze the context in which images are used. If the content surrounding the image is also duplicated or lacks relevance, this may further affect rankings. Also, images that are commonly shared or used without proper attribution could potentially lead to the perception of duplicate content, which is an area of concern for SEO.

However, it's not just about images being unique. The overall quality of content, user engagement metrics, and how well images are optimized with alt text and descriptions also play critical roles in search rankings. That said, having unique and high-quality visuals can certainly improve the overall aesthetics and engagement of a website, which indirectly boosts SEO.
While duplicated images can contribute to a site's ranking issues, they are just part of a larger picture of SEO practices. It's always a good idea to invest time in creating or sourcing unique images that reflect the identity of your brand and content.
