I am planning to create my own web host at home for personal use and would appreciate any suggestions or recommendations from the community.

Sentora is a hosting control panel that is open source and customized for Linux distributions, with licensing under GPL and being a separate fork of the original ZPanel project. Cyberpavel, on the other hand, features OpenLiteSpeed and LiteSpeed servers, Firewall using iptables, and supports LetsEncrypt, CentOS, and Ubuntu systems.

If you are looking for a free control panel for Linux systems working with OpenLiteSpeed web servers, check out Cyberpavel. It offers essential functions such as domain, mail, user accounts, and database management, as well as PHP version, and Docker container management. Besides having support for working through commands in consoles, it also supports issuing certificates and adding domains.

Vepp, on the other hand, is a new panel created by ISPmanager developers at the end of 2018. While the panel remains free at present, it may become a paid service in the future, and technical support is currently not available. The goal was to create a beginner-friendly system that takes care of technical difficulties so that users only have to download their website. However, no firewall is included, and manual configuration is necessary.

Webmin is recommended by many experienced programmers and system administrators, especially when paired with the Authentic Theme theme. This pairing allows for quick server configuration and user creation in one client interface.

CentOS Web Panel is a powerful control panel, though it comes with some limitations: it can only be installed on CentOS, Red Hat, or Cloud Linux systems.

Vesta CP is suitable for all popular distributions and boasts a beautiful interface design, making it an excellent choice for a control panel.

For full control over your server, Ajenti offers pleasant design and flexibility without pre-set defaults.

Froxlor is a logical choice if you have limited resources, as it supports only Debian systems (yet, Ubuntu may also be compatible).

ISPConfig's main feature is its ability to manage multiple servers from one location, making it a great control panel option for those who have more than one VPS.

While cPanel is a widely-used control panel for web hosting, there are indeed some free alternatives available. One such alternative is the Virtualmin control panel. Virtualmin is an open-source and feature-rich control panel that can help you manage your web hosting environment. It is based on the popular web hosting management software, Webmin.
Another option you could consider is the ISPConfig control panel, which is also open-source and provides a range of features for managing your web hosting server. Both Virtualmin and ISPConfig have active communities and support forums to assist you in setting up and using their software. Keep in mind that setting up your own web host at home may require technical expertise and considerations, such as security, maintenance, and bandwidth limitations.

Here are a few more free alternatives to cPanel:

1. Webmin: Similar to Virtualmin, Webmin is an open-source control panel that offers a wide range of features for server administration. It provides a web-based interface and supports various Unix-like operating systems.

2. VestaCP: Vesta Control Panel is a lightweight and easy-to-use control panel for managing websites, DNS, and email on your server. It comes with a simple and intuitive interface and supports multiple Linux distributions.

3. CentOS Web Panel: This control panel is specifically designed for CentOS servers and offers a comprehensive set of features, including web server management, DNS management, database management, and more. It is free to use and has a user-friendly interface.

4. CyberPanel: CyberPanel is a modern and feature-rich control panel that supports both OpenLiteSpeed and LiteSpeed Enterprise web servers. It offers a one-click installer, easy website management, and various advanced features.

and more:

1. Ajenti: Ajenti is a lightweight and user-friendly control panel that supports both Linux and BSD systems. It offers a clean interface and features like website management, email configuration, and server monitoring.

2. Froxlor: Froxlor is an open-source control panel that focuses on simplicity and security. It has basic features like domain management, DNS management, FTP management, and more. It supports both Apache and Nginx web servers.

3. Sentora: Sentora is a powerful and modular control panel that supports multiple operating systems. It provides a range of features including email management, file management, database management, and one-click application installations.

4. ZPanel: ZPanel is an easy-to-use control panel that supports Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. It includes features like website management, DNS management, FTP management, email management, and more.

You might want to look at VestaCP. It's a sleek, modern alternative that comes with a clean interface and built-in features like DNS management and a firewall. However, it might lack some advanced functionalities that seasoned webmasters expect.
If you're feeling adventurous, Ajenti is a minimalist control panel that's easy to install and offers a responsive design, but it may not have the extensive features you'd find in cPanel.
